SJC Mission Display Show & Sale Details

Mission San Juan Capistrano, back courtyard lawn

Exhibition & Sale Hours

Saturday & Sunday, April 4th and 5th - 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Eligibility 

Participants must be 2009 SOCALPAPA Members in good standing. Participation may be limited on a first come basis, due to limited space available.

Artists Displays

Participants must use a set of 3 black grids to display art work (see Member Packet or socalpapa.com for "Display Show Requirements"). The grids will be linked side by side in a zig-zag configuration and shared with another artist to form a 12 foot (6 panel) wide display, with one artist per side. Your Grid location will be assigned upon receipt of your entry form, with the best locations being assigned first. Chairs will be provided. No decorations of any kind (flowers, vases, etc.) will be allowed on or adjacent to the display.

Set-Up Schedule

Saturday Set-Up: 8:00 am - 9:30 am Sunday Set-up: 9 am - 10 am. Display grids and art work will be delivered through the north Basilica Gate (time, maps, & directions to come). Paintings will be stored Saturday evening in the Soldiers Barracks Gallery.

Participation Rules

1. Each Artist will only display their Plein Air style art work on black 3-panel grid racks as per SOCALPAPA "Display Show Requirements".

2. Original Plein Air art work only, no reproductions, cards, etc...

3. NO PAINTINGS OF NUDES or STUDIO STILL LIFES. NO PAINTINGS PRICED UNDER $200.00 (enforced).

4. All art work must be framed and priced (reflecting 25% commission to SJC Mission). No unframed or only matted work allowed.

5. Artist must arrange and staff displays at all times between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM each day. Assistance will be provided to help move grids to & from your grid location and the unloading zone.

6. Extra paintings, packing material, and personal items must be stored in your vehicle. Chairs will be provided.

7. NO PETS ALLOWED IN MISSION

Sales

The non-profit Mission San Juan Capistrano Preservation Foundation to receive a 25% commission on all sales. Sales slips will be provided. The Mission will handle all sales at the cashier’s table (cash, check & credit cards), collect all sales tax and issue checks to Artists after the event.

Non-Refundable Entry Fee: $ 30.00

Fee covers the costs of advertising, promotion, and set-up assistance/charges.

Juried Results, Instructions, PDF Postcard Invitation, and Display grid locations will be e-mailed at the beginning of March, with REPLY REQUESTED. Printed Postcard Invitations will be available at March 11th Potluck Meeting or mailed to you upon request. Make a copy of your submitted form for your file.

Insurance is the responsibility of the artist. Southern California Plein Air Painters Association, San Juan Capistrano Mission or any of it’s members will assume no liability for the loss, theft, or damage during all phases of this event. Artists participating in the Juried Events of this show, agree to allow SOCALPAPA and Mission San Juan Capistrano reproduction privileges of their award wining art for education, fund raising, or publicity purposes only. By submitting this entry the participant acknowledges their responsibilities.

SJC Mission Barracks Gallery Juried Exhibition Details

Mission San Juan Capistrano, Barracks Gallery 

Exhibition Dates: Friday, April 3rd, 2008 - Awards Reception, 6 to 8 PM. Awards announced at 7:00 PM.  Saturday, April 4th thru July 14, 2009 Exhibition & Sale in the Barracks Gallery

Awards:
First Place, Second Place, Third Place, and (4) Honorable Mentions, Thomas Anthony "Tony" Forster Memorial Award

Artist’s Choice Award for next year’s promo image. Votes will be accepted between 6:00 & 7:30 PM at the reception. Results will be announced at the end of the reception. Only members in good standing may vote.

Additional prizes or awards may be added.

Eligibility

Participants must be 2009 SOCALPAPA Members in good standing.

Juried Images

Participants may submit up to 3 paintings by digital images. 60 paintings will be juried into the Gallery and 40 Alternates will be juried in for replacement of sold paintings during the show. The Judge will select the Award Winners from the actual paintings hung in the Gallery. The judge will be Enrique Vidal.

Digital Image Specs

All painting images for the Juried Show are to be entered ONLINE at www.socalpapa.com between Feb. 1st thru Feb. 28th. Just click on "ONLINE JURIED ENTRY" and follow the instructions. You may enter up to 3 images. Image Entry questions should be sent to info@socalpapa.com.

Images entered WITHOUT a received mailed Entry Form with fees by the DEADLINE of Feb. 14th will NOT be juried.

Juried RESULTS will be e-mailed to artists by March 16th. Delivery Instructions of JURIED IN paintings will be attached to that RESULT e-mail.

Participation Rules

1. Original Plein Air paintings of landscapes, seascapes, and cityscapes created within the last 2 years are eligible for entry. No nudes, portraits, or still life’s.  

2. Minimum painting size is 8" x 10" and maximum painting size for watercolor is 16" x 20" and the maximum size for all other mediums is 14" X 18". Maximum framed size for all mediums is 20" X 24".

3. All paintings juried into the show must be framed as described in SOCALPAPA Show Regulations in member packets or online at socalpapa.com.

4. All entries must be available "FOR SALE" during the entire show dates. 

Sales
