The Consilience of Art & Science 2014

The goals of the exhibition are to show creative work that explores the intersection between art and science; to foster communication between the arts and sciences; and to spark new ways of viewing the world and ourselves. Creative work that transcends pure scientific illustration to explore the conceptual realm where art and science both reside is strongly encouraged.
ELIGIBILITY AND MEDIA:
This exhibit is open to all artists and scientists, regardless of residence, who wish to exhibit original 2D and 3D work in any medium, related to the intersection between art and science. Dimension restriction is at the discretion of the juror. Work must not exceed 50 lbs (exclusive of pedestal for 3D work).
All submissions should be online, through www.onlinejuriedshows.com.
A vital part of each submission is the statement (not to exceed 100 words), which should clearly explain how the work relates to the connection between art and science. The statement may be displayed with the accepted work.

DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORK: Accepted work may be hand-delivered or shipped and insured by the artist to the Pence Gallery, 212 D Street, Davis, CA 95616. Expenses for insurance and shipping to and from the Gallery are the responsibility of the artist.
ENTRY FEES: $40 Pence Members/$45 Non-Pence Members (non-refundable) entry fee via credit card or PayPal through onlinejuriedshows.com for up to three works of art. Fees will be used for expenses and awards related to the exhibition.
MERIT AWARDS: Cash awards will be given out at the discretion of the juror, and include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes.
LIABILITY: The Pence Gallery will insure all artwork while it is on the premises, through March 7.
Chris Daubert is a sculptor and installation artist whose current work explores the connection between our sensory knowledge and experience of the natural world, particularly as mediated and reconfigured through technology. He is a Professor of Art at Sacramento City College, and has curated numerous exhibitions for the Kondos Gallery and other nonprofit art spaces. His work has been widely exhibited in both regional and national venues, most recently in a group exhibit of Sacramento sculptors titled External Combustion, at the di Rosa Preserve in Napa.
Anna Davidson is a Ph.D. candidate in Plant Science, who has utilized her studies in science and art at UC Davis, Ripon, and the Hellenic International Studies of the Arts through Massachusetts College of Art and Design, to create works of art using living media, namely fungus and bacteria. An instructor in the Art/Science Fusion Program at UC Davis, she is the founder of the L.A.S.E.R. (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous) UC Davis speaker series at UC Davis.
LOCATION: The Pence is a nonprofit art gallery, established in 1975, whose mission is to educate and inspire the community by exhibiting high caliber art by local and regional artists. The Consilience exhibit will be displayed in its Main Gallery space, measuring 1000 sq. ft., with 12’ ceilings, lit by a dramatic glass tower.
