PleinAir Magazine presents the first annual "Plein Air Salon." In the spirt of the French Salon created by the Acade'mie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, this annual competition with bi-monthly contests leading to an annual Salon winner is designed to stimulate artist growth through competition and to reward artists through recognition and $20,000 in cash prizes. It is our belief that cash prizes assist in removing pressure to earn a living and help create an environment to thrive and develop new work in a pressure-free environment.

Each bi-monthly competition will offer recognition awards, visibility through PleinAir Magazine's newsletter editions plus awards of materials and supplies.

The competition is an annual contest with a bi-monthly component. Winners of each bi-monthly competition will be entered into the annual contest at which time a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and runner ups will be selected.

We will be rewarding up to $20,000 in prizes plus many merchandise and recognition awards. In order to enter you’ll have to register for your first entry and can use your sign-in and password for additional entries or future entries.

Comments: Beautiful design and elegantly painted.

A Quiet Spot
Ray Roberts

Comments: It is the midday quality of light that attracts me in this painting, the sort of thing that most artist avoid, handled here just beautifully. The cool light dominates with subtle warm shadows and edges, obviously knowledge discovered plein air. Very nice.

Perspective of Youth
Jason Sacran

Comments: The contemporary story is best told by a an artist with old fashion academic skills. Great job.

Coyote Call
Josh Elliott

Comments: Great drawing skills and a strong sense of form are not lost in the quiet of moon light. Magnificent.

Pastries and Preps
Trent Gudmundsen

Comments: This type of subject is handled by most artist in a very stiff fashion. This difficult drawing has a feeling of action that is conveyed with edge control and lost shadows. The artist captured the atmosphere of incandescent and natural light. All of this is brought together with a great design. Wonderful painting.

Little Girl with Toy Cars
Yen-Ching Chang

Comments: Charming. Great drawing and form, color and edges.

First Light over St Mark's, Venice
Barry John Raybould

Comments: When an artist with the full grasp of the painter's skills is used with speed to capture a fleeting moment, magic can happen. This is a wonderful painting.

An Appreciation
Ryan Brown

Comments: Amazing skill, congratulations.

Bay Bridge, San Francisco
Carole Rafferty

Comments: This urban landscape charms with its simplified volumes and color. Great job.

My Desk at Trinchera
Deborah Chabrian

Comments: This is art that is 'of the moment'. Strong drawing skill underlies the simplicity of this painting. We feel the quality of window light illuminating the edges and fading softly into shadow.
