Signature Artist, Artist, Sculptor, Out of State Artist, and Mentorship Program Members - Call for Entries 

 

Description of Exhibition 

 

We are pleased to announce that the 113th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition will be held again at the Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University. The exhibition dates are Sunday, August 18 to Saturday, October 26, 2024, with the Exhibition Opening and Artists’ Gala expected on Sunday, August 18

 

Since its 1909 inception, the California Art Club has been dedicated to promoting and preserving contemporary-traditional fine art through championing painting and sculpture that features representational subjects while utilizing classical skills. The annual Gold Medal Exhibition is the most vital platform for demonstrating the best of the realist genre. With an awareness of both the California Art Club's mission and the high quality expectations of this exhibition, CAC artists are encouraged to submit artwork that best exemplifies their talents. 

 

WHO  All current Signature Artist, Artist, Sculptor, Out-of-State, and Mentorship Program Members of the California Art Club. Please note that Associate Artist members are not eligible to submit

 

WHAT  113th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition

 

WHEN  Tuesday, August 20 – Saturday, October 26, 2024 

 

WHERE  Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University

SUBMIT  You may submit up to two “standard-size” works and one miniature for consideration, keeping in mind the California Art Club’s mission, which is to promote the best examples of traditional fine art while showcasing what makes your work unique.

 

We kindly request that artists submit works created in the last three years. Artwork submitted cannot have been displayed in any other exhibition, CAC or otherwise.

If it is discovered that accepted artwork does not adhere the above criteria, the artwork will be forfeited from showing in the exhibition.

 

Note: Sculptors must submit three digital images of various angles of each entry.

 

All entries will be submitted through OnlineJuriedShows. Log in on this page and click Enter This Show to begin your submissions.

 

Image files must be jpg and under 4 mb. For best results, image files should be at least 1920 pixels on the longest side (minimum 800) @ 72 dpi.

Special Notes: Please note that the Hilbert Museum is family oriented and partners with local K-12 schools. As such, we ask that artwork submitted be family friendly, this is a criterion that the jury will give serious consideration. 

 

DEADLINE  Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. PST.

• Please note that artwork submitted before March 17 will be considered for promotional purposes. 

 

MEDIUM  Paintings must be in traditional materials, oil, acrylic, pastel, or watercolor

• No works on giclée or any print-making process will be accepted, all artwork and references must be original.

• No digital or digitally altered images will be accepted.

 

Sculptures must be of permanent material, such as bronze, marble, terra cotta, fiberglass, resin or wood 

 

DIMENSIONS  Standard-Size PaintingsPlease note that although there is no height limitation, the width of the painting cannot exceed 48 inches. (Maximum width, 48” without frame) 

 

Miniature PaintingsMaximum size, without frame,* cannot exceed 9" x 12" (108 square inches) 

 

*For miniatures, frames cannot exceed 2 inches in width

 

Standard-Size Sculptures: Please keep in mind most sculptures will likely need to be displayed on pedestals. Larger works may be considered for display on the floor. The California Art Club can provide a limited number of pedestals. Sculptors may also opt to provide their own pedestals, provided they are delivered to the California Art Club prior to July 29 to be painted. 

 

Miniature Sculptures: 14" in any direction 

 

NoteSculptors must submit three digital images of varying views of each entry

 

For Multiple Editions: Provide edition number 

 

ENTRY FEE  $95. Entry fee is non-refundable. 

 

PAYMENT  Pay by credit card or Paypal through OnlineJuriedShows

 

COMMISSION  Artist’s commission is 60% of the sold price

 

Payments for sold artworks will be distributed to artists within 30 days of the close of the exhibition, or when funds are available. 

 

RECEPTION  Expected Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the Hilbert Museum

SHIPPING INFO  Out-of-town Artists will be responsible for the cost of crating and shipping all artwork to and from our logistics partners. Further shipping details will be provided upon acceptance. (Local Artists to deliver and pick up in person). 

 

SPECIAL NOTES  1. Details regarding catalogue and framing requirements will be sent to you upon acceptance.

2. All works must be for sale. 

3. Art submissions should be outstanding examples of your recent work created in the last 3 years and cannot have been exhibited at other venues.

4. Miniatures should be exceptional works of the highest quality.

5. Miniature’s frames will be restricted to 2” width

NOTIFICATIONS  On or around Monday, April 29 

 

CATALOGUE MATERIALS DUE  Monday, May 6, 2024 Note: This includes Liability Waiver, Artist Check-list, Artist Statements (limited to 100 words max), and High Resolution Images (300 dpi and 1MB minimum) Artist Agreement link and Dropbox link will be provided upon acceptance.

 

OUT OF TOWN SHIPMENTS  Send to:

Shipments must be received at TBD logistics company no later than Friday, July 26, 2024.

 

Note: Write your name clearly on both sides of box(es). All works require a pre-paid return label inside the box. Please note that the typical turnaround for return shipping is 4 – 6 weeks after artwork is picked-up from the museum.

 

Return shipments will be picked up by TBD logistics company on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from the Hilbert Museum. 

 

*LOCAL IN PERSON DROP-OFF  Monday, August 12 & Tuesday, August 13, 2024 between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

*LOCAL ARTIST PICK-UP  Saturday, October 26 between 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. (limited spots available), Monday, October 28 & Tuesday, October 29 between 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
