Harbor History Museum
14th Annual Maritime Art Exhibition

14th Annual Juried Maritime Art Exhibition
Harbor History Museum, Gig Harbor, Washington
July 20 – August 25, 2013

Exhibition Details
The 14th Annual Juried Maritime Art Exhibition at the Harbor History Museum provides an exciting venue for artists to showcase their maritime-themed works of art.  This is the third year the exhibition will be held at the museum. Last year, more than 85 artists entered, with 132 art pieces being accepted and displayed in the museum’s Special Exhibitions Gallery.  The museum brings in visitors from throughout the state of Washington as well as visitors from around the country and the world. Sales of art during the exhibit is a win-win situation for the museum and participating artists. The museum hosts a special private preview the evening before the exhibit opens to the public. All artists submitting artwork are invited, whether their art has been selected by the juror or not, and are welcome to bring special guests.  Last year, more than 200 people attended the opening. During the exhibit, special programs and hands-on workshops for adults and children will highlight maritime art.  This year's workshop features Seattle artist Kathy Collins, July 19 from 10 am to 4 pm at the museum. Visit the museum website for more info: www.harborhistorymuseum.org/exhibits/special-exhibitions. A Plein Air painting session will be held Saturday, August 17, along the waterfront at the museum. A special Student Maritime Art Exhibit will also be installed, featuring colorful artwork created by area students.

Jurors
Juror: Kathy Collins
Ms. Collins grew up in the Pacific Northwest and expresses her appreciation of the area's natural beauty through her impressionistic paintings. She uses a rapid process technique for painting dramatic high contrast watercolors. By charging in color and mixing flowing wet paint right on the paper, Kathy achieves intense dark values while preserving white spaces. Kathy's award-winning paintings have been juried into shows nationwide and featured in Watercolor Artist, American Artist, and The Artist's Magazine publications, as well as the Splash-Best of Watercolor series. She is a signature member of the Northwest and Montana Watercolor Societies, and Women Painters of Washington. Her work will appear in the book 100 Artists of the Northwest this year.
