9th Annual Members’ Exhibition
2018 Official Prospectus
REQUIREMENTS AND AWARDS:
• To be eligible to participate in this show, you must be a current paid member of the PSSC as of the previous November meeting. The Membership Chairman at or before the November 11, 2017 meeting must have received your dues.
• Each member in good standing is guaranteed at least one piece in the show, as anonymously selected by our Special Invited Juror, Liz Haywood-Sullivan.
• Participation in PSSC events, such as meetings, workshops or paint-outs, is encouraged, but not mandatory. A great way to get involved in PSSC functions is to volunteer in the events that take place at the time of the take-in of paintings for the show, and at the PSSC exhibition opening festivities.
• Again this year, PSSC will have four categories from which artists can choose to submit paintings:
• Gold
• Silver
• Miniature
• Novice
• A BEST OF SHOW cash prize will be awarded to one overall painting at the show, as deemed the BEST by our Invited Distinguished Judge, Tony Allain, and it can come from the Gold, Silver or Miniature categories. Other awards will be given in the individual categories, as outlined below.
DISTINGUISHED ARTIST - GOLD JUROR AWARD:
This category is for all eligible PSSC members who are professional artists, art teachers, or painters with years of experience. The submitting artist will determine if his or her painting will be submitted in this category. The winners will be judged by our Invited Distinguished Judge, and Cash awards will be given for the following: First Place, Second Place, Third Place and two Honorable Mentions.
Artists entering in this category are not eligible to enter the Silver Juror Award or Novice Categories. However, they may also enter in the Miniature category.
DISTINGUISHED ARTIST - SILVER JUROR AWARD:
This category is open to all eligible PSSC members who have not submitted in the Gold Juror Award or Novice Categories. The submitting artist will determine if his or her painting will be submitted in this category. The winners will be judged by our Invited Distinguished Judge, and Product awards will be given for the following: First Place, Second Place, Third Place and two Honorable Mentions.
Artists entering in this category are not eligible to enter the Gold Juror Award or Novice Categories. However, they may also enter in the Miniature category. If an artist has won 3 or more awards in the Silver category from past PSSC exhibitions, the artist is ineligible for the Silver category, and must submit paintings into the Gold category.
DISTINGUISHED ARTIST - MINIATURES JUROR AWARD:
This category is open to all eligible PSSC members submitting paintings in both Gold OR Silver Juror Awards. Submittal into this category will count as one of the four total pieces allowed. (An artist may also submit up to four paintings in just the Miniature category if not submitting in Gold or Silver or Novice.) The paintings must be 80 sq. inches or smaller--for example, 8” x 10” or any multiple size that adds up to 80 sq. inches or less when you measure the width times the height. You can have a mat or frame that measures no more than 3 inches around the painting. For an 8” x 10” painting the frame or mat can be 14” x 16”, or 224 sq. inches maximum total size including frame.
DISTINGUISHED ARTIST - NOVICE JUROR AWARD:
This category is open to all eligible PSSC members who have not submitted in any other categories and who are beginning artists and/or student artists who have started pastel painting in the past two years. If the artist won an award in the previous year’s Novice category, he or she will not be eligible to enter the Novice category again. Novices can enter paintings completed in classes or workshops, provided the instructor has not personally worked on the painting. The submitting artist will determine if his or her painting will be submitted in this category. Artists entering in this category will not be eligible to enter the Gold, Silver or Miniature Categories.
The winners will be judged by our Invited Distinguished Judge, and the number of product prizes given will be determined by the judge.
