Notable awards include a traveling scholarship from the Boston Museum School in 1979 and 3 awards in 1986 that include a Visual Artist Fellowship from the NEA, a Printmaking Fellowship and Painting award from the Artist Foundation of Massachusetts. She was a founding partner of the Artist Proof Cooperative Print Studio in Cambridge MA, which was honored for its contribution to the painterly print by the Boston Public Library in 2000 with an exhibition and catalog “Proof in Print; a Community of Printmaking Studios.” Exhibitions of note are “Boston: Now” at the ICA/Boston in 1987, in Los Angeles at LACE in 1994, 3 one-person shows at Zoe Gallery in Boston and as a gallery artist with the Jan Baum Gallery in Los Angeles. She currently exhibits in international and national exhibitions focusing on printmaking. In recent years she has curated exhibitions researching the history of printmaking in Los Angeles. “Connections; LA Printmaking 1962-1973” at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery was part of the Los Angeles Printmaking Society’s 20th National in 2010 and brought together 34 significant works from artists who came to prominence in the 1960s. In 2013 at CSUN Art Gallery, a retrospective of the paintings and prints of the influential teaching artist, “Leonard Edmondson” and at the LA Print Space in 2014 “the press is my paintbrush” presented work from two master print shops, who are artists in their own right; John Greco of Josephine Press and Francesco Siqueiros of El Nopal Press. Mary taught printmaking at the Boston Museum School, Otis College of Art and Design and is currently an adjunct professor at Loyola Marymount University and continues to research the impact of printmaking as an art form for the Los Angeles Printmaking Society.
CALL FOR ENTRIES
Engraving is one of the oldest art forms. Engraved designs have been found on prehistoric bones, stones, and cave walls. The technique of duplicating images goes back several thousand years to the Sumerians (c. 3000 BCE), who engraved designs and cuneiform inscriptions on cylinder seals (usually made of stone), which, when rolled over soft clay tablets, left relief impressions. They conceived not only the idea of multiplication but also the mechanical principle, the roller, which in more sophisticated form became the printing press. This exhibit will highlight Printmaking in various methods including: Intaglio (engraving etching, drypoint, aquatint and mezzotint), Planographic (lithograph), Relief (woodcut, linocut and embossing), Stencil (serigraph or silkscreen), Monoprint and Paper Cutting (Scherenschnitte.) Please don’t submit art that you had submitted in the past year. This exhibit will be juried using digital images (jpgs) through Online Juried Shows: www.onlinejuriedshows.com

Frames must be in good condition and properly equipped with wire for hanging. The wire and eye screws must not show when the artwork is hung. Maximum weight for any artwork is 10 Ibs. per linear foot of width. Minimal assistance available moving large or heavy pieces. Damaged art, mats, frames, glass and Plexiglas will not be accepted.
