Artist Prospectus 2018

 

The Wallkill River School is delighted to announce that the 3rd annual Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival will be held on October 10 - 14.

 

New York’s Hudson Valley is the ideal setting for plein air painting. The area is endowed with a rich history of art and has been a popular destination for many of America’s artists for over 150 years.

 

About the Festival

 

The Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival is organized by the Wallkill River School, a non-profit artists’ cooperative that runs an art school and fine art gallery as well as a plein air art workshop series.

 

The Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival is a juried exhibition open to all painters in all mediums. The festival will include artist awards and an opportunity to sell work created during the event to the public. There will be a welcome reception for artists to check in and have canvases stamped. Artists may paint at locations of their choosing within the Hudson Valley map provided. There will be a Quick Draw competition in Goshen open to juried and non-juried artists. The festival will conclude with an exhibition and sale of paintings created during the festival.

 

A 30% commission on all artwork sold during the Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival will be retained
by the Wallkill River School, with all event sales handled by the Wallkill River School. Payment to artists for work sold will be mailed within 30 days after the event ends.

 

Festival Painting Requirements

 

  • All paintings must be done “en plein air” during the event.
  • 18” x 24" maximum canvas or paper size.
  • Only artwork with a stamp will be permitted in the exhibition and sale.
  • All submitted artwork must be available for sale.
  • Any unsold art must be collected by the artists at the conclusion of the exhibition or make other arrangements with Chrissy Pahucki (cpahucki@gmail.com) to have works shipped or stored.
  • At least one painting, and no more than four paintings, from each artist are due at the artwork drop off for the show.
  • Artwork information, tags and an art inventory form (included in packet) must be filled out for each painting.

 

Artist Awards

 

The Wallkill River School will announce the awards during the exhibition and art sale. Thanks to our generous sponsors, there will be at least $2,000 in awards. Award category amounts to be determined.

Event Calendar

 

July 15: Entry Deadline

 

August 1: Jury notifications will be e-mailed to all artist applicants. A list of accepted artists will also be posted online at wallkillriverschool.com.

 

Wednesday, October 10th:

4pm - 6pm: Welcome reception and registration for juried artists.

Artists will get an information packet and have their blank canvases stamped for the event.

Artists are free to paint after 4pm (map included in packet).

 

Saturday, October 13th:

12:00 - 1:00pm: Quick Draw registration and canvas stamping open to all artists in Goshen.

1:00pm - 3:00pm: Quick Draw Painting Competition

3:00 - 3:30pm: Framing & Set up of Quick Draw artworks on artist easels

3:30pm: Quick Draw Awards

Artwork drop off at show location TBA.

Hanging of artwork. Venue restricted to WRS officials.

 

Sunday, October 14th:

1:30 - 3pm: Preview party for artists, housing hosts, supporters, prize donors, special guests,

etc.

3 - 5:00pm: Public Show and Sale. Artists will host their display area.

 

Entry Process

 

  • Entry application will be through www.onlinejuriedshows.com.
  • All entries must be submitted by July 15, 2018.
  • The jurors, will review all submitted applications and invite 30 selected artists to participate in the event.
  • If you attended the 2018 Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival, and won an award, you are automatically guaranteed a spot in this year’s festival if you apply online before July 15th.
  • For a non-refundable fee of $45, applicants must submit three digital images of their work and an artist bio.
  • All images must be of original “plein air” artwork, created by the applicant artist within the past two years.
  • Notification of selected artists will be e-mailed to each applicant no later than August 1.
  • Artists not selected for the festival are welcome to participate in the Quick Draw Competition & Sale.

 

Artist Housing

 

The last 2 years we were able to house 100% of our out of town artists. We hope to do the same this year. However, we will fill housing slots, after the jurying is done, starting with the applications that came in first. So, if you will need housing for the event, applying earlier will benefit you.
