About the Juror: Peter Frank

PETER FRANK is Associate Editor for Fabrik magazine and resident curator at Castelli Art Space in Los Angeles. He is former critic for Angeleno magazine and the L. A. Weekly, served as Editor for THEmagazine Los Angeles and Visions Art Quarterly, and contributes articles to publications around the world. Frank was born in 1950 in New York, where he received a B.A. and M.A. in art history from Columbia University and was art critic for The Village Voice and the SoHo Weekly News. Frank, who recently served as Senior Curator at the Riverside Art Museum, has organized numerous theme and survey shows for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Venice Biennale, Documenta, and other venues, as well as a survey of the artist Tony DeLap for the Laguna [CA] Art Museum. McPherson & Co./Documentext published Frank’s Something Else Press: An Annotated Bibliography in 1983. A cycle of poems, The Travelogues, was issued by Sun & Moon Press in 1982. Abbeville Press released New, Used & Improved, an overview of the New York art scene co-written with Michael McKenzie, in 1987. Frank has written many monographs and catalogues on a wide array of modern and contemporary artists. He has taught and lectured extensively throughout North America and Europe.

ENTRY FEE

(Entry fees are non-refundable and must be paid by entry deadline)

$45 for up to three pieces, $5 for each additional piece, maximum of 5 entries.

 

ELIGIBILITY

Current members in good standing with Collage Artists of America (CAA) may enter a maximum of five (5) works not already shown at BLCAC or any prior juried CAA exhibit.

Two- or three-dimensional collage, mixed-media collage, digital collage and assemblage accepted. Works done under direct supervision of an instructor are ineligible. Giclée prints and similar duplicates are also ineligible. Source material must be original or not PRIMARILY derived from any published images.

Once artwork is submitted the artist may not withdraw it. No substitutions of accepted works will be allowed. No artwork may be removed from the gallery prior to closing of exhibit, including sold artwork.

 

ARTWORK FORMAT, PRESENTATION & SIZE REQUIREMENTS

Size limited to 48” in either direction for wall hung work. Pedestals are provided by Gallery. Maximum weight for wall hung work is 25 lbs., for pedestal pieces 45 lbs. Pedestals provided by Gallery.

Size Limit for SHIPPED WORK is 24”x30” including frame.

Frames and mattes (if used) must be of gallery quality, clean, and in excellent condition, and of a professional appearance. No glass allowed, Plexiglas only. Non- traditional framing is allowed. Entries must be dry.

Gallery wrapped canvas or wood panel does not require framing unless the edges are unfinished, and must have no fasteners visible

Wall-hung artwork, including wall-hung assemblage, must be wired to properly support the piece for hanging. Wires must be attached with screw eyes or D-rings. Wire ends must be wrapped with tape or otherwise protected. No saw-tooth (bar) hangers accepted (exception: 9”x9” or smaller if difficult to wire). The wire and eye screws must not show when the artwork is hung.

Diptychs, triptychs, and other multipart artwork must be presented as a single work at take-in, with all parts attached and ready to hang as a single piece.

Damaged artwork, mattes, frames, Plexiglas, and artwork not properly wired for hanging, or not dry, will not be accepted. CAA reserves the right to refuse artwork that doesn’t meet these requirements.

 

DISCLAIMER

Any entry not meeting the criteria listed above will be disqualified and the entry fee will not be refunded.

 

REPRODUCTION OF ARTWORK IMAGES

By entering this exhibit, artist agrees that any accepted artwork may be reproduced for advertising, marketing, and promotional purposes for this exhibit or future exhibits without consent of or notification to the artist or the artist’s agent.

 

SHIPPED ARTWORK must be crated/boxed, prepaid, in a reusable shipping container, using bubble wrap or other high-quality packing material

Size Limit for SHIPPED WORK is 24”x30” including frame

No packing peanuts, entry will be reclosed and returned!

Include prepaid return shipping label, entry form, entry fee, plus a $25 per box handling fee, checks payable to Collage Artists of America.

TAKE-DOWN AND PICK-UP

Pick-up on Friday, May 24, 9:00 a.m. – Noon.

Artist/agent must sign for all artwork removed from the premises.

NO STORAGE IS AVAILABLE - If you cannot pick up your artwork as required, please make arrangements for someone to pick it up for you.

Shipped works will be shipped for return by June 5.

 

GALLERY SALES

All checks will be paid directly to the group/artist. Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center may collect sales tax for you, however, artist is responsible for payment of sales tax. The Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center is not set up for credit card purchases. Artist(s) must arrange for their own credit card machine/ or card reader and phone and person to handle credit card sales, if they desire. The Center will call the artist for a sale that needs a credit card. All artwork sold is subject to a 25% commission paid by the artist to the Burbank Fine Arts Federation. (Bartered prices are at artists’ discretion.) Sales Tax will be added to all work sold during show duration (unless artist requests otherwise).

· By entering this exhibit, artists agree to the terms, conditions, and instructions in this prospectus and on the entry form.

· Artworks are handled with utmost care. However, artists are solely responsible for maintaining appropriate insurance on their artwork at all times. Neither CAA, nor any organization, gallery, agent, employee, contractor, CAA member, nor volunteer is responsible for loss or damage to any artwork submitted, or for any loss or damage that may occur during transit.

A two-part, unseparated entry form must be completed and attached to back of upper right hand corner of each submission. (included in the acceptance letter)

• Please type or print clearly. Enter your artist name, address, city, state, and ZIP code.

Enter the e-mail address and telephone number at which you can be reached.

• Check one box for appropriate artwork medium:

COLLAGE: flat or very low relief.

MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE: moderate relief and/or different techniques and materials.

ASSEMBLAGE: highly dimensional, multiple three-dimensional elements, and/or freestanding.

• Enter the size of the artwork including all framing, matting, and protrusions.

Do not include pedestals in the measurement.
