PROSPECTUS

 

Monday, September 28 – Sunday, October 4, 2015

Warm Springs Gallery presents the Third Annual Bath County Plein Air Festival to benefit the Warm Springs Mountain Preserve.  For one week, thirty of the mid-Atlantic’s finest plein air painters will set up their easels along pristine rivers and country roads capturing the warm autumn light of Bath County, Virginia.  Nestled in the Alleghany Mountains and home to the historic Homestead Resort, Bath County is a painter’s paradise, offering panoramic vistas, meandering streams and open meadows, family farms, and charming village scenes.

Event Information
The event will take place from Monday, September 28th – Sunday, October 4th, 2015.

Check-in and Canvas Stamping will take place on Monday, September 28 from 2-5 pm at Warm Springs Gallery, 12 Katydid Trail, Warm Springs, VA  24484.

Artists will paint Tuesday, September 29 through Friday, October 2, 2015.

Artists must turn in two paintings marked to be judged and up to 5 additional paintings (completed, framed, and wired) to Warm Springs Gallery between 2 - 3 pm on Friday, October 2.

Maximum canvas size permitted is 24” wide, no restriction on height.  All work turned in for exhibition, judging, and sale must be painted during the event en plein air and without the use of photographs. These works must bear the event stamp.

On Friday, October 2, there will be a Preview Party, Awards Presentation, and Sale of Paintings at the Warm Springs Gallery.  The commission split will be 50-50.

The Quick Paint will take place on Saturday, October 3 from 10 am to 12 pm.  All juried artists are required to participate in the Quick Paint on Saturday.  The Awards for the winning Quick Paint paintings will be presented at 1:00 pm.

On Sunday, October 4, from 9 am -12 pm the gallery hosts a Champagne Collection Sale.  Artists will display their paintings from the sunrise paint out and talk about their work and process with patrons.

Entry Instructions
Entries are to be processed through Online Juried Shows.  Application, application fee, and three images are due by Tuesday, June 30, 2015.  No entries will be accepted after this date.  The Application fee is $35.  Payment can be made either through PayPal or a valid credit card.

Each artist must submit three (3) professional quality images of artwork in JPEG format with an Image Size of 72dpi @ 1920x1920 pixels, a short bio, a CV or resume.

Juror of Submissions
The Bath County Plein Air Festival is a juried event with applications reviewed by a panel of five professional artists and/or curators.  The panel will review all submitted applications and select 25 artists for a total of 30 artists to participate (award winners and top artists in 2014 will be invited back to the 2015 festival).  Notification of selected artists will be sent to each applicant via email no later than July 15, 2015.

Judging & Awards
Bath County Plein Air will award over $5000 in cash prizes plus merchandise awards.  The 2015 Awards Judge is Al Gury, chair of the painting department at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Art.  Painter, educator, writer and curator, Gury received his BA in fine arts and humanities from Saint Louis University, a Certificate of Art from PAFA, and an MFA from the University of Delaware.  He is a recipient of the Cresson Traveling Fellowship and numerous grants and awards for painting and arts education, and was designated a master teacher by both The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and American Artist Magazine.  His paintings have been exhibited, among other places at the National Academy of Design in New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Capitol in Washington D.C., Washington and Lee University, the University of Pennsylvania and galleries across the country.  He has written two books, one on the history of color in painting and one on the history of direct painting techniques: All Prima: A Contemporary Guide to Direct Painting and Color: It’s Traditions and Practice in Painting.

Lodging
We have a number of generous supporters of the arts who have indicated that they will open their homes to visiting artists.  All juried artists will be placed in private homes.

ARTIST’S AGREEMENT
I have read the foregoing Prospectus and by entering and paying for this Entry Application, I agree to be bound by all terms set forth therein, including participation in the week-long Competition, the Awards Ceremony & Sale, the Quick Paint event on Saturday and the Champagne Collection Sale on Sunday.

From September 28 through October 4, 2015, I agree to sell no paintings while the event, Bath County Plein Air Festival is going on unless 50% of the selling price is paid to the Warm Springs Gallery to benefit the Warm Springs Mountain Preserve.   I understand that the Warm Springs Gallery will conduct all sales.  I hereby give Warm Springs Gallery and the Warm Springs Mountain Preserve permission to use images of work that I enter into the Bath County Plein Air Festival competition for publicity purposes. I understand that I will receive credit for any such reproduction(s) of my work.
