For the Birds

For the Birds
June 27 - August 2
Submission Deadline: May 4, 2015

Exhibition Details
View seeks works of art inspired by the avian species for an open media, national juried exhibition with $3400 available in prizes. Few species have captivated the human imagination more than birds—often the subject of myths and legends, we observe and study them, feed them, provide housing for them and create works of art dedicated to them—this exhibition stands as a celebration of our feathered friends.

View is a premier multi-arts facility located in the Central Adirondacks of New York State. www.viewarts.org

Melissa Groo is a wildlife photographer living in upstate New York. Her passion for wildlife, conservation, and ethical photography drives her to tell stories and educate people about the marvels of the natural world through her images. She finds herself at the intersection of photography as fine art with the power of images to convey feeling and instruction, and considers herself a“wildlife biographer” as much as a wildlife photographer.

Melissa’s photographs have been published in numerous books and magazines, including Smithsonian Magazine, Birdwatching Magazine, Living Bird, Montana Outdoors, National Wildlife magazine, New York State Conservationist Magazine and Audubon magazine. She is a member of NANPA’s Ethics Committee, and has a bimonthly column on wildlife photography tips and techniques in Wild Planet magazine. Melissa has received awards and honorable mentions in national and international photography competitions, including NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association), Nature’s Best, Festival de L’Oiseau, Birds of Art, the HBW World Bird Photo Contest, and Nature Photographer Magazine.
