Juan Jr. Ramirez 2020 Juror

Juan Jr. Ramirez is a self-taught artist born
1987 in Chicago. His modern portraits are
classically painted and are treated with sensitivity. He has studied the methods of John Singer Sargent, Carolus Duran, and Diego Velazquez. As a teacher, Juan has recognized the importance of communication and patience. He works endlessly to make difficult tasks easy to understand for each student individually in a friendly way.

“As an artist, I treasure the moments that are fleeting and I work to make the moment last forever. It could be the swiftness of the light and color, a gesture, or even the person that few would consider painting. The most intimate moments are not always private - they are in fact open to the world. I approach a painting based on the emotions of the subject and let the technique be dictated by impulse.”
