Juried Exhibition
November 7 through 19, 2017
at the La Jolla Art Association Gallery, 8100 Paseo del Ocaso, Suite B, in La Jolla (92037)

PROSPECTUS

 

General Information
•    This is a juried exhibition sponsored by the La Jolla Art Association (LJAA). The LJAA has its gallery in La Jolla Shores at La Jolla, California. Website: http://www.lajollaartassociation.org
•    It is open to all media except crafts.
•    This competition is open to all artists residing in Southern California.
•    All work entered must be for sale.
•    All work must be devoid of any colors other than black, white, or shades of gray (that means no colors like Rembrandt Blue that may appear gray).
•    All frames used must be exclusively black, and devoid of any ornamentation.
•    All work presented behind glass or plexi must be matted exclusively in white or white with black core (please use a pure white).
•    All work on canvas must be either framed (per note above with all liners being be either black or white) or gallery wrapped.
•    All wall hung work must weigh less than 20 pounds.
•    For all work not wall hung, the artist must supply a base or pedestal in either black or white (the gallery has only a small supply of pedestals).

Acceptable Work
1.    Work on canvas or panel:  any medium such as oil, acrylic, montage, photography printed on canvas, etc. Giclees or other forms of reproduction (except for signed & numbered limited editions of prints or photography) are not acceptable.
2.    Work on paper:  any medium such as watercolor, pastel, pencil, photography, etc. Giclees or other forms of reproduction (except for signed & numbered limited editions of prints or photography) are not acceptable.
3.    Work in 2 or 3 dimensions:  ceramic, bronze, cloth, glass, etcetera. Jewelry must be constructed entirely of parts created by the artist (except for the string, clasp, or items such as metals or jewels which have been modified by the artist) and must stay within the parameters of black and white including grayscale.
4.    Other Media:  Mixed media, montage, digital art (digital compositions, assemblages or combination of photographs or other media), etc. are acceptable.  Giclees or other forms of reproduction (except for signed and numbered limited editions of prints or photography) are not acceptable.

Awards & Prize Money
Awards will be decided after the show is hung.
There will be a ribbon and cash award for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners as well as a Juror’s Special Award of Recognition
•    1st place:  $200.00
•    2nd place:  $150.00
•    3rd place:  $100.00
•    Juror’s Special Award of Recognition:  $75.00

Submission process
•    There is a 20 work limit to the number of works submitted by an artist.
•    Please prepare jpegs of your work in advance to make your application process easier.
•    Jpegs of work submitted for consideration must have an image resolution of 72 dpi. The largest side should be 1920 pixels, letting the smaller side fall where it may. File size must not exceed 3.9 Mb.
•    Smaller sized jpegs may result in your work having a disadvantage when viewed by the juror.
•    If a higher resolution image is needed for publicity, one will be requested.
•    Only 3-dimensional works may be represented with more than one jpeg per work submitted. Three dimensional works may submit up to 3 jpegs per.

Entering Your Images
•    Entry form must be filled out in its entirety.  List sizes up to the nearest inch.  Submitted images must not include matting or frame.  Crop the photos to include only the artwork.  Be sure your images are right-side-up.
•    Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi.  Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.  Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at:  www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx.  If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please write to us here:  https://onlinejuriedshows.com/Contact.aspx

2017 JurorPatrick Mason
Patrick Mason is a contemporary artist and adjunct professor living and working in San Diego. He received his B.A. from the University California Santa Cruz, and his M.FA from California Sate University Fullerton. Primarily working in the medium of oil painting, Patrick Mason has shown work throughout Southern California, Orange County and Los Angeles. During his graduate studies Patrick Mason was nominated for the Dedalus Foundation Grant. He is one of the founding members of Riveted Collective, a group of artists promoting art in “gorilla” spaces bringing fine artists and local communities together. Patrick Mason creates abstract oil paintings exploring the beauty of perpetual change. He is a regular exhibitor at West Gallery in Fullerton, and has exhibited at Chancellor's House, Studio 11 and Da Art Center in Los Angeles.  He teaches studio art at California State University at Fullerton.

Fees
•    LJAA Members in good standing: $25.00 for the first work submitted and $10.00 for each additional work.
•    All others: $35.00 for the first work submitted and $12.00 for each additional work.

Delivery of Accepted Artwork
All work must be hand delivered unless it is sent with reusable (or additional return) packaging & prepaid return documents. All shipped work must be received by Saturday, October 15, 2016. Hand delivered work must be delivered during the following times:
•    Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 4 and 8 p.m.
•    or Sunday, November 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pickup of Accepted Artwork
•    All shipped work will be returned shipped back after the show ends on November 19.
•    All hand delivered work must be picked up on Sunday November 19, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sales
The LJAA will take a 25% commission on any sale, as well as collect the sales tax and pay any credit card fees. All packing and shipping fees to be paid by the artist.



Size Limitations for wall hung work
•  In order to allow the maximum participation, wall hung work for this exhibition must not exceed 40 inches, including frame, external measure, in any direction, or weigh more than 20 pounds.
•  Multi-part works such as triptychs, which exceed 36 inches in any direction, must be entered as separate entries with separate fees and as such, you may upload a separate jpg for each part.

Gallery Framing requirements
•    All wall hung work MUST be wired to hang. No open sided framing. Saw tooth hooks, or any other framing method deemed unprofessional by the director of the show will NOT be hung.
•    Three dimensional work may not exceed 150 lbs. nor a height of 6’6” including pedestal or base.

Insurance
While the LJAA carries general insurance, artists should have their own exhibition coverage, including transit.

October 22:             Due date for all online entries
October 25:             Notification of acceptance (awards determined after show is hung)
November 4 & 5:     Deliver accepted art to gallery at LJAA
November 7:            Exhibition opens
November 11:          Artists’ reception 5 – 8 p.m., award presentation at 6:00 p.m.
November 19:          Exhibition closes artwork pickup
