Art in the Loft
RED

We are excited to announce our Third Annual Juried Art Show entitled RED, opening October 4, 2018.  We are privileged to have Tara Welch as our juror from Bay City, MI. With her guidance, we look forward to a spectacular show.

Ours is a truly unique gallery. The gallery has over 7,000 square feet of open loft space devoted to the exhibit of fine art by local, regional and national artists. We also offer visual and culinary art workshops, educational activities, and arts-centered community events. The gallery is open to the public and can be used by members for private functions and we look forward to exhibiting artist’s work from all around Michigan, work in all sizes, subjects, and media, except film.

We really love art – in all media. As well as looking for skill in the use of a variety of materials, we look for how well that medium relates to the concept and how fully the artist’s intention or concept is presented and realized. The juror’s awards will reflect that artistic judgment.

Show Details

Theme: The color RED has more personal associations than any other color. Recognized as a stimulant, red is inherently exciting and the amount of red is directly related to the level of energy perceived. Red draws attention and a keen use of red as an accent can immediately focus attention on a particular element.

RED can take on many meanings depending on which shade or variation is being used:

Light red represents joy, sexuality, passion, sensitivity, and love.
Pink signifies romance, love, and friendship. It denotes feminine qualities and passiveness.
Dark red is associated with vigor, willpower, rage, anger, leadership, courage, longing, malice, and wrath.
Reddish-brown is associated with harvest and fall.

Artists are to use RED and shades of RED in at least 50% of their work of art.

We look forward to filling the gallery with work that embodies how you, the artist, perceives this theme, whether it be abstract or literal.
