CALL FOR ENTRIES: Hillsborough Gallery of Arts, an artist-owned cooperative in Hillsborough, North Carolina, will celebrate the start of the new year by hosting a juried fine art exhibit from January 5 to 25, 2015. All North Carolina two dimensional and three dimensional fine artists are encouraged to apply. Juror for the awards will be Timothy Riggs, Curator of Collections at the Ackland Art Museum in Chapel Hill, NC. Work will be displayed at the Hillsborough Gallery of Arts with an opening reception on January 9, 6-9pm.

Entry Deadline: SEPTEMBER 15, 2014
Artwork must be submitted online via the digital entry program Online Juried Shows at www.onlinejuriedshows.com. Instructions for submission can be found on that website. Accepted pieces must be hand delivered to the gallery on January 3 or 4.

JUROR:
Timothy Riggs has been curator of Collections at the Ackland Art Museum in Chapel Hill, NC since 1984. He has authored many interesting curatorial essays for Museum Exhibitions. During his tenure he is known for an incredible analytical ability to solve art mysteries. Formerly curator of prints and drawings at the Worcester Art Museum and researcher for Print Council of America, Riggs has over 34 years of museum experience.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

METHOD OF SELECTION:  Artwork will be accepted for the exhibit on the basis of digital images. Hillsborough Gallery of Arts (HGA) reserves the right to refuse any art not conforming to the digital image submitted. Artists may enter up to two works, one view of each two dimensional work, up to two views of
each three dimensional work.

ELIGIBILITY:  Works in all fine art media completed within the last three years are eligible. Art should be original. No mass produced prints or reproductions. Hand pulled prints, original digital prints and photographs are acceptable. Photographers should enter the first edition of a print run. All artwork must be the exhibitor’s original idea and be created independently by the exhibitor, not done under the supervision of an instructor. Artists must be at least 18 years old and live in North Carolina.

ENTERING IMAGES:  Artists will enter their images online at www.OnlineJuriedShows.com. Help in photographing the work can be found on the Help page. For best results the longest side of an image should be at least 1920 pixels. Resolution should be 72 dpi. Images should be in JPEG format. If artists need help entering their images they should email help@onlinejuriedshows.com or call 949-287-8645.

SIZE LIMITATIONS AND PRESENTATION:  Two dimensional pieces may not exceed 36 inches in width including frame and must weigh less than 50 pounds. All two dimensional pieces must be framed in a professional manner with wire attachment and be ready to hang. No ‘alligator’ type hangers. Canvases must be framed or gallery wrapped with no visible staples or unpainted sides. Canvases with wet paint will not be accepted. Each three dimensional work must fit on a 12”x12” pedestal and weigh less than 50 pounds.

SALES:  All artwork will be for sale. Artists will receive 60% of the sales price, and HGA will retain a 40% commission. Artists will be notified of sales within 72 hours of a completed sale. Checks will be mailed out on February 8th, 2015.

ENTRY FEES:  Each artist may submit up to two entries for a single fee of $35.

INSURANCE:  HGA will take every reasonable precaution to prevent loss or damage to artists’ work, but will not be responsible for any loss or damage. Artists are responsible for insurance of their work during the show.

REPRODUCTION OF IMAGES:  Entry of images for the Exhibition constitutes agreement to the conditions set forth in this prospectus. The artist grants HGA permission to photograph any work accepted for the Exhibit for archival purposes or publicity; or for publications, slideshows, film, or television programs which are produced or sponsored by or with the permission of HGA; or to photograph artists’ work for the HGA website, HillsboroughGallery.com

ABOUT HILLSBOROUGH GALLERY OF ARTS:
Owned and operated by local artists, Hillsborough Gallery of Arts (HGA) represents established artists exhibiting modern and contemporary fine art and fine craft. The emphasis is on cooperation, mutual encouragement, and giving the arts a more visible presence in the town of Hillsborough. Artworks include oil, acrylic and watercolor painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, fiber art, jewelry, glass, metal, mosaics, encaustics, enamels, and wood. Opportunities arise for new members when a current member leaves the gallery. Interested artists can fill out a waiting list form (available on the website) to be notified when there is an opening.
