Pastel at the Ebell

Pastel Society of Southern California

Pastel at the Ebell Juried Exhibition

2019 Official Prospectus

The Pastel Society of Southern California (“PSSC”) is excited to announce our first exhibition of 2019 in celebration of our Society’s 10th Anniversary. This juried exhibition, “Pastel at the Ebell,” will be held at the Ebell of Los Angeles, one of the oldest and largest women’s clubs in the United States. The show will run from April 18 through May 24, 2019, and will take place in the Ebell Clubhouse, an historic landmark building with a dedicated Art Salon, located in the mid-Wilshire district, at 741 S. Lucerne Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90005. Phone: 323-931-1277.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • To be eligible to participate in this show, you must be a current member of the PSSC.
  • Each PSSC member in good standing may submit up to two pastel pieces, which will be juried anonymously by our Special Invited Juror, Karen Margulis. Acceptance is not guaranteed.
  • All entered works must be for sale. No NFS. Artists are advised, that based on historic sales at this venue, works priced up to $750 are most likely to sell. Artists are encouraged, but not required, to price their works accordingly.
  • All work must be entered online through Online Juried Shows. The cost of entry is $35 for up to two images.

RULES FOR ALL CATEGORIES:

  • You must enter online. All entries must be submitted as digital files (one image per artwork) to www.onlinejuriedshows.com.
  • For information on submitting images and to pay the jury fee, go to onlinejuriedshows.com, scroll down to the “Pastel Society of Southern California Pastel at the Ebell Exhibition” exhibit listing and click “enter this show.”
  • Each member may submit up to two images. The entry fee of $35 includes up to two pieces. Payment is online via credit card or PayPal.
  • The artwork’s final layer must be (80%) soft pastel.
  • All artwork must be for sale. No NFS.
  • Artwork must be original and personally executed, not copied from other artists or from published or copyrighted materials or from someone else’s real life/still life set-up or photo. Artists working from reference photographs must use their own photo that they have personally taken. Paintings using photos taken by another photographer, even used with permission, will not be accepted.
  • Artwork may not have been accomplished in a directed, step-by-step class or workshop.
  • Artwork must have been completed in the last two years and may not have been exhibited in a PSSC show before.
  • Artwork must be no longer than 36” in either direction, including frame.
  • Painting must be wired for hanging. Use D-rings or screw eyes only, placed 1/3 down from the top of the frame. Saw tooth hangers are unacceptable. Use braided wire that is sturdy enough to support the artwork. The peak of the hanging wire should be approximately 2 inches from the top of the center of the frame. Frames must be sturdy, neat, and simple. Mats, if used, are to be clean, well cut, and neutral in color. Mats must be in proportion to the frame, i.e., frame must be the correct size for the painting.
  • Artwork may not be removed from the show until the exhibit closes. Artwork may not be moved on exhibit walls after placement by the Exhibition Director.
  • Artwork must be tasteful, and no nudity is allowed.
  • All paintings shall be delivered with an attached (removable) label on the back of the piece specifying:

        Artist Name

        Painting Title

        Medium

        Painting Size (H” x W”)

        Sales price

        Date (year) of creation

  • In addition, print the artist name on the back of the painting, stretcher bar or frame so that we can identify the painting in the event the label is inadvertently detached.
  • PSSC reserves the right to refuse artwork that does not meet with any show rules or requirements even though accepted by the juror.

REVENUE FROM SALES:

If an artist sells a painting at the show, each artist is responsible to pay the Ebell of Los Angeles a commission of 25% for each painting sold, according to the listed price. Once the image is entered and paid for using Online Juried Shows, it is considered “entered” in the show and, if sold, even outside of the show through a personal contact, the commission to the Ebell is still due and payable by the artist.
