You are cordially invited to enter the 2019 National Juried Show sponsored by the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild (SAAG) and the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association (BRMAA). Cash prizes totaling $5,000, including $1,500 for Best of Show, will be awarded. The SAAG National Juried show, which is in its 12th year, will be on display during the peak visitor months of October and November, attracting interest from the surrounding tri-state metropolitan areas of Atlanta, Asheville, Chattanooga and Knoxville. Artworks selected by the juror will be displayed in the Richard Low Evans Gallery located in the historic courtroom of the Art Center, which is home to the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The 2019 show will be judged by Nancy Nowak. The Southern Appalachian Artist Guild (SAAG) operates under the umbrella of the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association, a non-profit 501c3 arts council in the Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia. SAAG’s mission is to enhance the professional and business development of artists and to maintain the art-centric vision of our artistic community.

 

JUDGE: Nancy Nowak

Nancy Nowak is passionate about sharing her knowledge of art. A graduate from Cleveland Institute of Art, with a BFA degree, Nancy has exhibited her pastel paintings throughout the US, Italy, and France and her work has won numerous top national and international awards. Nancy’s paintings have been featured in Plein Air Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, Pratique de Arts and multiple times in Pastel Journal Magazine, along with receiving 1st place in the Pastel Journal Magazines’ Top 100 for her landscape. Nancy has been a sought after art instructor and conducts national workshops in pastel. Nancy is a board member and has achieved Master Circle status with the International Association of Pastel Societies, is a Signature Member of Pastel Society of America, a Signature Member of American Impressionist Society and Member of Excellence in the Southeastern Pastel Society. Originally from New Jersey, Nancy now resides in Suwanee, GA.

 

Eligibility Requirements

Artists who are legal residents of the United States are invited to participate in a juried exhibition of two-dimensional and three-dimensional works. Artwork will be chosen from submitted entries by jurors on the basis of creative excellence and quality of execution. All works must be original and completed within the last 2 years. No work that has been previously shown in the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association Art Center or submitted for an upcoming BRMAA-sponsored national show is eligible. SAAG and/ or BRMAA will be the final authority on eligibility and acceptability for exhibition. Works to be hung must be wired and ready for hanging with all necessary hardware in place. NO saw tooth hangers will be accepted. No modifications to prepare a piece for exhibition will be done by the Guild or Art Center. Neither artwork nor mounting panels may be screwed or bolted to any wall in the Art Center’s historic courthouse building. This is an online submission process ONLY and no paper/ mailed submissions will be accepted.

 

Size and Framing Requirements

·         All two-dimensional artwork must be no larger than 48” by 48” including frame.

·         Sculptures and other three-dimensional artwork may not exceed 60” vertically and 30” horizontally, nor weigh

·         All framed two-dimensional artwork normally framed under glass is acceptable on hand delivered items ONLY. Plexiglas on all shipped artwork. Canvas, board, wood framed or museum wrapped artwork is accepted. No laminated coatings will be accepted on 2D work. Watercolor pieces should be displayed under glass or Plexiglas only.

 

Categories

·         Two-Dimensional: includes acrylic, color pencil, drawing, encaustic, mixed media (including collage), oil, soft or oil pastel, pen and ink, photography, printmaking (but excluding all print reproductions such as Giclee), watercolor

·         Three-Dimensional: includes clay, fiber, glass, metal, plaster, stone, wood, as well as other materials

 

Entry Requirements & Notification

Entry Deadline is Thursday, August 1, 2019.

Images should be high quality (print quality). Images approximately 1700 pixels by 2000 pixels with image size about 5.5 inches by 6.5 inches at 300 ppi (pixels per inch) resolution will yield a high quality print image. Your submitted images do not have to meet this exact standard. Photographers selected may be asked to submit the RAW image file. Acceptable photography may only be images that have not been changed beyond basic processing-- such as color, exposure, saturation and contrast adjustment. Panoramas, spot removal and cropping are also allowed. Combined multiple exposures for HDR and subject composites are not allowed.

 

Each artist may enter up to (3) three pieces of original artwork created in the last two years. No work that has been previously shown in the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association Art Center or submitted for an upcoming BRMAA-sponsored national show is eligible. For three-dimensional artwork, (2) two images per piece is required to show different perspectives or an overall and detail view.

 

All information on the original entry application as to title, size and price may not change at any point once application has been submitted. All image files must be entitled with artist’s last name and the entry's title (Smith- Picture of a Horse). This information must match the title and name on the entry form. Category (2D or 3D) must clearly be indicated on entry form for each piece of artwork submitted. Any entry considered offensive or not meeting exhibition criteria may be rejected by the National Show Committee at its sole discretion. Entries must be original in concept, composition and

execution. Artwork created under the supervision of an instructor is not eligible. Artwork must not be copied, in part or wholly, from any published or copyrighted work. Prints and Giclees will not be accepted. All Notifications will be sent via e-mail no later than August 30, 2019. Ensure email address is correct and legible on your entry form.

 

Entry Fees: The entry fee for the 2019 SAAG National Juried Show is $40 for up to (3) three entries for non-BRMAA/ SAAG members and $35 for members.

 

Notification: All Artists will be notified of their artwork(s) acceptance or rejection via EMAIL ONLY no later than August 30, 2019. Please check your email spam/junk folders to ensure proper delivery of notification email(s).

 

Sales Policy

All work submitted must be for sale. Artwork marked not for sale (NSF) will not be accepted. The artist will receive 65% of retail price (set by the artist) and BRMAA will retain a 35% commission, unless the artist is a BRMAA/ SAAG member. BRMAA members receive 70% of the retail price and BRMAA retains a 30% commission. The price submitted on Entry Form (attached) will be the price represented throughout the duration of the show. Changes are unacceptable. Georgia sales tax (7%) will be added at the point of sale. The Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association and Art Center will make the final determination of display arrangement. Artwork may not be removed from the exhibition prior to the close of the show, unless prior arrangements have been made with the SAAG National Show  committee/ BRMAA.

 

Liability

All reasonable precautions will be taken to ensure protection of submitted work upon receipt. No liability can be assumed by SAAG, The UPS Store, nor BRMAA during the exhibition or during storage for damage incurred or loss of work, while in transit or at the exhibition. Artists and agents are advised to arrange their own shipping and exhibition insurance. Submission of works to this exhibition constitutes agreement on the part of the artist to all terms and conditions of this entire prospectus, which includes, but is not limited to, the right of BRMAA to use entries for publicity.

 

Delivery and Return of Accepted Work

Hand Delivery: Please deliver uncrated artworks to the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association and Art Center, 420 West Main St., Blue Ridge, GA only on September 22, 2019. Hand delivered artwork must be picked up on November 10, 2019.

 

Shipped Artwork: All shipped artwork should be scheduled to arrive at The UPS Store location between September 9 - September 19, 2019. No late submissions will be accepted. The UPS Store is located at 96 Craig Street, Suite 112, Ellijay, GA 30540; Phone (706) 698-4877. Please address all shipping questions to store4805@theupsstore.com - Attn: Debbie Leger/ ref: 2019 SAAG National Show. Packages will not be accepted after Thursday, September 19, 2019.

 

The handling fee is $35 for each package shipped containing accepted artwork(s). This is not a per piece charge.

The handling fee includes receipt of shipped artwork, delivery to the Art Center for exhibition, storage of packaging during the exhibition, repackaging of artwork upon completion of the exhibition. If you need to make special arrangements, please call or email the contact information listed above for The UPS Store. Please remember to either enclose your PREPAID return shipping label inside your container or arrange with The UPS Store for return shipping. Each artist is required to ship separately. No combined shipments from multiple artists are allowed unless the accepted applicants live at the same address. NO shipping popcorn or foam peanuts will be accepted. Shipped artwork not following approved shipping guidelines will be returned. The UPS Store, SAAG or BRMAA will NOT be held responsible for damaged or loss packages during the shipping process.

 

DO NOT ship artwork to the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association. Artwork shipped directly to the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association and Art Center will not be accepted.

 

Agreement

 

Submitting an entry to this exhibition constitutes an agreement on the part of the artist with all conditions set forth in this prospectus. No work accepted for the exhibition may be withdrawn before the close of the exhibition. Upon submission, the artist cannot substitute another work for the accepted artwork or change the title, size or sale price. SAAG and BRMAA maintain the authority to view actual artwork and review acceptance.

 

Statement of agreement:

Completion and submission of this prospectus serves as my agreement to indemnify and hold harmless SAAG and BRMAA, their officers, agents, employees and trustees from any loss or damage to any work of art submitted to this exhibition and acknowledge that each artist must carry his/her own insurance. BRMAA reserves the right to photograph artwork for publicity purposes and for reproduction in the exhibition catalog with no compensation provided.

 

Failure to exhibit or deliver accepted artwork will result in artist not being eligible to exhibit in this show for a period of time set forth by the National Show Committee and the SAAG Executive Board not to exceed (3) three years. If I receive an award, I understand I will furnish my social security number or Federal Tax ID to the sponsor prior to awards being paid.
