ABOUT the LGAA:

The Los Gatos Art Association (LGAA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the enrichment and support of the arts community. Our mission is to promote creative expression in the pictorial and allied arts by fostering high standards, extending appreciation, and encouraging cooperation and camaraderie among artists. Membership is open to all artists and art supporters. www.lgaa.org Monthly meetings are held in Los Gatos where artists can interact, network and make connections, and watch an art demonstration. The LGAA also sponsors major annual shows, a weekly Plein Air group, and participates in several Bay Area artist exhibitions and community galleries.

 

ABOUT the GBAO:

The Greater Bay Area Open (GBAO) is a fine art only competition presented by the Los Gatos Art Association and held in Los Gatos, CA at NUMU, New Museum of Los Gatos. Artwork selected for this competition will be shown over a two-month period.

JUROR:

Ric Ambrose: Ric Ambrose is the Executive Director of the Richmond Art Center. Over the past thirty years, he has managed art collections and curated over 300 exhibitions in art, science, and history at five organizations: Sangre de Cristo Arts Center, Fresno Metropolitan Museum, Clay Center for the Arts and Science, Pacific Art League, and the Lawrence Hall of Science. Ambrose taught studio art at Colorado State University, West Virginia State University, and Arapahoe Community College. His large scale drawings were featured in solo and group exhibitions across the United States. His work is represented in numerous public and private collections. Ambrose received his MFA in drawing at Colorado State University, and a BFA in studio art and art history at the University of Oregon. He currently has a solo exhibition of his drawings at the Triton Museum of Art.

 

ELIGIBILITY:

This competition is open to all artists (18 years of age or older) who are residents of the greater Bay Area which includes all areas between Carmel, CA through Napa, CA.

 

RULES:

Works must be created by the artist, original in concept, and completed within the last three years. Artwork accepted must be able to be displayed in the New Museum of Los Gatos as they are presented in their submitted digital image. Work previously shown at any Los Gatos art museum, work done under instructor, wearable art or jewelry, functional ceramic, crafts, installations, or video/films, copies, or giclées, are not allowed in the show.

 

MEDIUMS:

All mediums accepted, except as noted in RULES above.

 

AWARDS:

Awards totaling $1100. Best of Show $500, First Place $300, Second Place $200, Third Place $100, and five honorable mentions – all chosen by the juror.

 

2D ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS:

Two dimensional (2D) artwork must not exceed 30" in either direction (including frame). 2D minimum artwork size (including frame) is 8" x 10" or 80 square inches. Accepted 2D artwork must be adequately framed, wired, and ready for hanging. Wire MUST be in good condition, and taut. D-rings only – no protruding eye hooks or saw tooth hangers. No framing with pressure spring clips used for attaching the hanging wire. Canvas edges clean, or painted, with no visible staples. Plexiglass glazing is preferred. Artist is

responsible for any damage resulting from glass glazing material.

 

3D ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS:

Three dimensional (3D) artworks shall be pedestal based or stand alone, and are not to exceed 2 foot wide by 2 foot deep x 3 foot tall (2’ x 2’ x 3’ maximum) and must not exceed 40 pounds.

 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

All artwork submissions will be in digital format only using the online site www.onlinejuriedshows.com. A maximum of five (5) artworks from each artist may be submitted. Images must be in .JPG format, at least 1920 dpi on the longest side, with a resolution of 72 dpi.

 

ENTRY FEES (Non-refundable):

$45 for your first entry, $15 for each additional entry. (Maximum of five (5) entries.)

SALES:

Artwork DOES NOT need to be for sale. Any artwork sales must be handled by the artist. There is no commission on sales. Artwork must remain in the show until end of show. Although not required, NUMU would appreciate a 10% donation on any artwork sold as a result of the exhibition.

 

NOTIFICATION:

If your artwork is accepted into this year’s GBAO, you will be emailed detailed information on where and when you can deliver your artwork. If you do not receive notification by June 8, 2019, please email: GBAO@lgaa.org.

 

ACCEPTED ARTWORK / ARTWORK DELIVERY:

Artwork must be hand delivered to the New Museum of Los Gatos (NUMU) on June 11 between 11am and 1pm. No artwork shipments will be accepted. NUMU address: 106 E Main St, Los Gatos, CA 95030
