Artist Alliance at Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th

This is a call to artists who are members of Oceanside Museum of Art Artist Alliance: You are invited to submit any number of entries for consideration in this juried art exhibition presented by Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) that will take place at the Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th in San Diego, CA.  

Submissions will be accepted exclusively through OnlineJuriedShows.com (OJS).

Artists who are not members of the OMA Artist Alliance but are interested in participating in this exhibition must submit their membership applications for Oceanside Museum of Art with the Artist Alliance add-on before submitting artwork for consideration. Details on how to join can be found in this prospectus. (See Item # 3 under Detailed Guidelines for Entry.)

TIMELINE:

  • Submissions open: Friday, October 18, 2019
  • Submissions close: Monday, November 18, 2019, 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time (PST)
  • Final acceptances announced: On or before December 11, 2019
  • Artwork drop-off at Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th: January 2 - 4, 11 00 am to 4 pm 
  • Exhibition on view: January 7 - February 7, 2020
  • Reception: Saturday, January 11, 6:00 – 8:00pm
  • Artwork pick-up from Ashton Gallery: Saturday, February 8, 2020, 12:00am – 2:00pm.

 

SUMMARY

  • Exhibition Location: Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th, 4434 30th Street, San Diego, CA 92116

 

  • Eligibility: Must be current Oceanside Museum of Art member with the Artist Alliance add-on.

 

  • Submissions: All submissions will be processed through onlinejuriedshows.com

 

  • Submission Fees: $20 for the first entry, $10 for each additional entry, unlimited quantity

 

  • Artwork Details: 
  • All submissions must be original works of art. No giclees or other reproductions, with exception of limited edition prints and/or photography. 
  • Artwork may be in any media or style. Tasteful nudity is acceptable. 

 

  • Allowable Dimensions/Weight
    • Wall mounted two- and three-dimensional work: maximum 60”width, 96” height, including frame.
    • Maximum weight for wall mounted work: 20 pounds.

 

 

    • Freestanding three-dimensional work must be appropriate size for display on 12” x 12” x 40” pedestal.

 

 

  • Artists are encouraged to submit a variety of sizes. 

 

  • If you are unsure of the dimensions of your submissions, please measure for the sake of accuracy. Artwork arriving at the gallery with dimensions other than those stated in submission may be rejected and/or returned at artist’s expense.

 

  • Artwork requiring special or unusual lighting, electricity, or unusual methods of installation cannot be accommodated.

 

  • Frames must be simple and neutral. 

 

  • Edges of unframed two-dimensional artwork must be finished or gallery wrapped.

 

  • Hardware: Artwork must be installation-ready upon delivery. D Rings must be installed on the back at precisely equal distances from the top of all wall-mounted work. Cleats not allowed.

 

 

DETAILED GUIDELINES FOR ENTRY

 

  1. ENTRY DEADLINE: 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST), November 18, 2019.
  2. EXHIBITION:  Artworks for “In the Moment” will be selected by juror Cathy Breslaw and exhibited January 7 through February 7, 2020 at Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th.

 

 3. ELIGIBILITY: To submit artwork for consideration in this exhibition, you must be a current member of Oceanside Museum of Art with the Artist Alliance add-on. Interested artists who are not a member of the Museum and Artist Alliance must submit their membership application before submitting artwork through Online Juried Shows. 

OMA Artist Alliance can be joined by one of the following methods: 

  • Online: Visit oma-online.org/membership. Choose any level of membership and then add Artist Alliance
  • By phone: Call the OMA membership center at (760) 435-3724
  • In person: Visit Oceanside Museum of Art at 704 Pier View Way, Oceanside CA

 

 4. ONLINE SUBMISSION PROCESS: Entries will be accepted exclusively through onlinejuriedshows.com. When entering for the first time, follow the instructions for opening an account and creating a password. Record your password for reuse in all future entries with onlinejuriedshows.com. Scroll down to locate the exhibition “OMA at Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th” and follow the directions for entry. When filling out your artwork information for this show, please be sure all information and spelling is correct. All information entered by the artist will be used “as is” throughout the entire exhibition. Entry form must be completely and accurately filled out providing all requested information regarding the artwork and the artist. If you are unsure of the actual dimensions of your submissions (framed and unframed), please measure for the sake of accuracy.

No changes can be made after the entry deadline, 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST) November 18, 2019.

 5. ENTERING YOUR IMAGES

 

Complete instructions for DIGITAL IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS are found on http://onlinejuriedshows.com/Help.aspx as follows: It is not necessary for digital image file(s) to be pre-formatted to the 1920 x 1920 pixel size. Digital image of each work submitted will be automatically resized. However, for the best image quality it is suggested that each image be submitted at 1920 pixels @ 72dpi on the LONGEST side. A MINIMUM of 800 pixels on its longest side will be accepted. Files may be submitted in JPG, TIFF, BMP or PNG formats.  [Recommended: sRGB color space.] 

 

List sizes up to the nearest half inch.  Submitted images must not include matting or frame.  Crop the photos to include only the artwork.  Be sure your images are right side up.

Note: The quality of clarity, sharpness, color and lighting of your images contribute greatly to the understanding of your artwork and assists jurors in their decision-making process. If an artwork does not match the appearance of the electronic entry image, it may be rejected after delivery. Please submit your images accordingly
 

 6. USE OF IMAGES: By submitting images to the exhibition, the entrant warrants that he/she created each of the artworks submitted for consideration in the exhibition and that he/she possesses all legal rights to them. The entrant agrees that all submitted images selected by our juror may be used for marketing and promotional purposes related to the exhibition. By providing the images and other information through this entry, the entrant gives permission for OMA, OMA Artist Alliance, and Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th to use images of accepted artwork for promotion, reference, printed materials and online postings related to this exhibit as well as in future advertising. All images used by OMA, OMA Artist Alliance and Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th shall be credited to the artist. Copyright and all other rights remain that of the artist. 

 

 7. ENTRY FEE: At the end of the entry process, payment can be made using a valid credit card. Unlimited numbers of entries per Entrant are allowed. Entry Fees: $20 for the first entry, $10 for each additional entry, unlimited. Entry fees are nonrefundable.

 

 8. NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS: Selected artists will receive via email an Acceptance Letter from onlinejuriedshows.com on or before Wednesday, December 11, 2019. Exhibiting artists will also receive a loan form. Detailed instructions will be given in the acceptance letter. 

 

 9. IMPORTANT: Please add Services@OnlineJuriedShows.com and Manager@OnlineJuriedShows.com to your safe senders list to ensure all notifications are received.

 

  • CONDITIONS: Final acceptance of entries in the exhibition is up to the Juror and Exhibition Coordinator’s discretion after viewing the delivered artwork. If artwork does not match the appearance of the electronic entry, if actual dimensions of artwork are different from those noted with the submission, if artwork requires special or unusual lighting or unusual methods of installation that cannot be accommodated, or if the workmanship, framing, or edge finish is not suitable quality for gallery presentation, the artwork will be disqualified and returned at the artist’s expense. Please note that frames must be simple and neutral. 

 10. All work delivered must be ready to hang with D-rings installed on reverse at precisely equal distance from the top of artwork. Cleats cannot be accommodated. If work that is not installation-ready is delivered, it will be disqualified and returned at the artist’s expense.

 

Insurance: OMA will provide coverage for the replacement value of the work or the fair costs of repair should loss or damage occur during the course of exhibition. OMA and Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th will exercise usual care in handling of artwork but cannot be responsible for minor wear resulting from normal handling. 

Each exhibiting artist will be required to sign a loan agreement with OMA for loan of the work. Signing of the loan agreement will signify that you allow OMA to act as your agent in agreeing to terms and conditions of the loan.

 

 11. ARTWORK DROP-OFF at Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th: January 2 – 4, 2020, 11:00am to 4:00 pm. The gallery is located at 4434 30th Street, San Diego, CA 92116. In case of conflict, please contact Kay Colvin at kay@oma-online.org for assistance with special arrangements.

 

The artist must remove all packing material at the time of drop off.  Packing material will not be stored or provided at time of pick up. 

 

 12. ARTWORK PICK UP: Artwork must remain with the exhibition until pickup on Saturday, February 8, 2020, 12:00am – 2:00pm. The artist must bring any necessary packing materials at the time of pick up. 

 

13. SALES

All sales will be conducted by Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th staff. The artist will receive 50% of sales price, so set price accordingly. Please clearly indicate if artwork is Not For Sale (NFS). 

Sold artwork must remain with the exhibition through the end of the show. 

 

14. THE ENTRY FORM IS A CONTRACT: By submitting this entry form, the submitting artist agrees to all terms as stated above.

 

ABOUT THE JUROR: Cathy Breslaw

Cathy Breslaw is a Southern California contemporary visual artist who has been featured in over 37 solo exhibitions and has participated in over 50 group exhibitions across the U.S. in museums, art centers, college and university galleries and commercial galleries. She holds an MFA from Claremont Graduate University where she received two fellowships. Breslaw holds a BA degree in American Studies from George Washington University and an MSW, master’s degree in psychiatric Social Work from Howard University. 

Breslaw lectures at colleges and universities, teaches Art History, and has been a contributing writer for Art Scene magazine of Southern California, Visual Art Source, Vanguard Culture, Artillery Magazine, and has a blog artfullifebycathy.blogspot.com focused on creativity, exhibition reviews for museums, galleries and art centers. 

Since the 90’s Breslaw has been exhibiting professionally while exploring and expanding her art practice, continually experimenting to include accessible commercial materials. Her mostly large format wall, floor, sculptural and installation works engage concepts of light, space, cosmology, the interconnected fragile and ephemeral nature of life, the powerful forces of nature and sometimes environmental issues.
