ABOUT THE JUROR 

 

Max Presneill is an artist and a curator based in Los Angeles. An abstract painter, he has shown globally, with works that explore sub-cultural iconography, masculine identity and mortality. He has exhibited throughout the world and is represented by Patrick Painter, Inc. in Los Angeles, TW Fine Art in Brisbane, Australia, ICFA in Beijing, China, Gallery Lara in Tokyo, as well as the Durden & Ray collective in Los Angeles. 

Solo exhibitions include TW Fine Art, Brisbane and Garboushian Gallery (Beverly Hills), as well as the New Bedford Art Museum, Freight & Volume (New York City), Nicodim Gallery (Los Angeles), as well as inclusion in Museum exhibitions, including at Museum Villa Seiz, Germany (alongside Gerhard Richter, Sol LeWitt, Markus Lupertz, Daniel Richter, AR Penck, Allan Jones, Tom Wesselmann), Lancaster Museum of Art & History (alongside David Hockney), and in both the Yokohama Triennial and 13th Istanbul Biennial. 

He is currently the Director and Head Curator of the Torrance Art Museum, with particular curatorial interests in artist-led projects, emerging art, new models for curatorial methodologies and an international scope for partnerships, exchanges and building artistic communities. CBS named him in the top 8 Best Art Curators in Los Angeles 2015 and Blouin Modern Painters magazine included him in the 2018 Top 25 Curators to Watch from around the world, alongside colleagues from the Guggenheim, MOMA, Whitney, Tate, LACMA and other institutions.

Instructions are available on the website with a number to call for assistance. You must create a free account to enter the exhibit. 

ENTRY FEE (Entry fees are non-refundable and must be paid by entry deadline) $45 for up to 3 pieces, $5 for each additional piece, maximum of 5 entries. 

Entries must qualify as follows: 

COLLAGE: flat or very low relief.

MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE: moderate relief and/or different techniques and
materials.

ASSEMBLAGE: highly dimensional, multiple three-dimensional elements,
and/or freestanding.

DIGITAL COLLAGE: Combination of multiple images. Digital manipulation of a
single image does not qualify.

ELIGIBILITY

Current members in good standing with Collage Artists of America (CAA) may enter a maximum of five (5) works not already shown at Topanga Art Gallery or any prior juried CAA exhibit. To join Collage Artists of America, visit www.collageartists.org

Two- or three-dimensional collage, mixed-media collage, digital collage and assemblage accepted. Works done under direct supervision of an instructor are ineligible. Giclee prints and similar duplicates are also ineligible. Source material must be original OR not PRIMARILY derived from any published images.

Once artwork is submitted the artist may not withdraw it. Delivered work must match the image juried in. No substitutions of accepted works will be allowed. No artwork may be removed from the gallery prior to closing of exhibit, including sold artwork.

ARTWORK FORMAT, PRESENTATION & SIZE REQUIREMENTS

Size limited to 24” wide, 36” tall, including frame. Maximum weight for any hanging artwork is 20 lbs. per piece. Maximum weight for pedestal pieces is 45 lbs. per piece (artist must handle placing). Pedestals available. Free-standing art, 6-foot height limit. Size Limit for SHIPPED WORK is 24”x30” including frame).

Frames and mattes (if used) must be of gallery quality, clean, and in excellent condition, and of a professional appearance. No glass allowed, Plexiglas only. Non-traditional framing is allowed. Entries must be dry, properly prepared for exhibition and properly equipped with wire for hanging. No saw-tooth (bar) hangers accepted. The wire and eye screws must not show when the artwork is hung. Work must be in excellent condition and suitable for hanging in a professional gallery exhibit. 

Gallery wrapped canvas or wood panel does not require framing unless the edges are unfinished, and must have no fasteners visible.

Wall-hung artwork, including wall-hung assemblage, must be wired to properly support the piece for hanging. Wires must be attached with screw eyes or D- rings, and wire ends must be wrapped with tape or otherwise protected. No saw tooth (bar) hangers accepted.

Diptychs, triptychs, and other multipart artwork must be presented as a single work at take-in, with all parts attached and ready to hang as a single piece.

Damaged artwork, mattes, frames, Plexiglas, and artwork not properly wired for hanging, or not dry, will not be accepted. CAA reserves the right to refuse artwork that doesn’t meet these requirements.

DISCLAIMER
Entries not meeting the criteria listed above will be disqualified and the entry fee will not be refunded.

REPRODUCTION OF ARTWORK IMAGES
By entering this exhibit, artist agrees that any accepted artwork may be reproduced for advertising, marketing, and promotional purposes for this exhibit or future exhibits without consent of or notification to the artist or the artist’s agent.

TAKE-IN
Hand-delivered artwork must be brought to Topanga Art Gallery on Monday, January 6, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon. Any artwork that arrives damaged or does not adhere to rules of entry will be disqualified. Artwork must match the image accepted online.

Artists may designate an agent to deliver and/or pick up their artwork.

Each accepted artwork must have an ENTRY FORM attached to the back of each piece in the exhibit. ENTRY FORMS are located at the end of this Prospectus and can be printed by you in the required number needed. Also you will find
CAA's Liability Waiver following the entry forms; only one from each participant is required and must be turned in at TAKE-IN.

GUIDELINES FOR SHIPPED ARTWORK – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.
All work must be crated/boxed, prepaid and include return prepaid shipping labels, plus an entry form for each piece of work, in a re-usable shipping container using bubble wrap or other high-quality packing material.

No packing peanuts - entry will be reclosed and returned to artist!

SIZE & WEIGHT LIMIT FOR SHIPPED WORK is 24” X 30” including frame, no more than 20lbs. Mandatory Processing Fee of Twenty-five dollars ($25) for EACH package shipped. No exceptions. Checks payable to: Collage Artists of America. Ship to arrive no later than: Friday, January 3, 2020

TAKE-DOWN AND PICK-UP 

Take down Sunday, January 26, 4:00-5:00 pm. No artwork is to be removed before 4:00pm. After exhibit close, unsold artwork must be picked up at gallery. Artist/agent must sign for all artwork removed from the premises. Shipped works will be shipped for return by February 18, 2020. 

NO SECURE STORAGE IS AVAILABLE. 

If you cannot pick up your artwork as required, please make arrangements for someone to pick it up for you. Storage charge is $25 per day if art is left at the gallery. (Except Shipped artworks.) 

GALLERY SALES 

All sales are final. Gallery will receive 30% commission on any and all sales during and as a result of the exhibit. Artist will receive 70%. All work shall remain in the exhibit until the exhibit ends. Any artwork without a sale price on the entry form will be considered “Not for Sale” (NFS). Prices cannot be changed from those stated at submission. Artists should expect payment within 3 weeks after close of the exhibition.

OBLIGATIONS AND LIABILITY 

By entering this exhibit, artists agree to the terms, conditions, and instructions in this prospectus and on the entry form. Accepted artists are asked to provide by email a brief biographical and artistic statement, two-three paragraphs, to fit on one page, including a small photo. Publication of statements is solely at the discretion of CAA. Exhibit email invitation will be sent to you and artists are encouraged to send announcements to colleagues and other artists. 

Artworks are handled with utmost care. However, artists are solely responsible for maintaining appropriate insurance on their artwork at all times. Neither CAA, nor any organization, gallery, agent, employee, contractor, CAA member, nor volunteer is responsible for loss or damage to any artwork submitted, or for any loss or damage that may occur during transit.
