Thank you for considering entry into the 27th Annual juried exhibition hosted by the Red River Watercolor Society. The exhibition runs June 8, through August 8, 2020, at the Hjemkomst Center, in Moorhead, Minnesota.  The Exhibition Juror and Workshop Instructor will be Ken Call, AWS, NWS, TWSA Artist BioArtist Workshop.

 

ENTRY DEADLINE:  March 5, 2020

March 5   Deadline for Entry

May 11-15   Shipped paintings due

May 31     Hand delivery of paintings (1:00 - 3:00 PM)

June 8   Exhibition opens

June 8-12    Workshop with Juror Ken Call

June 9 Opening Reception (6:00—8PM)

August 8 Last day of exhibition

August 9 Paintings prepared for shipping

ONLY Watermedia on PAPER will be considered for acceptance as described below in Eligibility, Entry Requirements, and Other Important Information.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entry Eligibility

  • Open to all artists 18-years of age and older, working in two-dimensional watermedia art on a single piece of paper.
  • ORIGINAL WORK ONLY. No supervision, no class work, no copies of other artists’ work, and no work from photographs not created by the artist.
  • Paintings must have been completed within the last two years and not previously exhibited in RRWS National Exhibitions.
  • You will receive a letter for every entry submitted, either declining or accepting each piece in the order you submitted them.

Eligible Materials

  • Acceptable materials include water-soluble media only: transparent or staining watercolor, gouache, casein, egg tempera, water based ink, and acrylic.
  • All entries must be on a single piece of watercolor paper, or Yupo, and must be matted and framed per the instructions for accepted paintings.

 

Ineligible Materials      

  • No pastels, oil pastels, water-based oils, print images, digital images, or reproductions.
  • No collage.
  • Canvas is not acceptable.

 

Size Requirements:

  • Minimum Painting size excluding mat: 108 square inches (e.g., 9 x 12, 8 x 14, etc.).

 

 

PREPARE  DIGITAL ENTRIES:

RRWS has partnered with Online Juried Shows for submission of entries. You may pay your membership via OnlineJuriedShows.com at the same time!

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS - DIGITAL IMAGE PREPARATION

 

1.    To apply for the RRWS  27th Annual National Juried Watermedia Exhibition, visit www.redriverws.org and click on “Exhibition Entry,” or log on directly to www.OnlineJuriedShows.com 

2.     To open an account, click https://www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/CreateNewAccountaaspx. Please fill out their “Create an Account” form completely.  They will walk you through the process in clear steps.

3.    To submit to this exhibition, find the Red River Watercolor Society logo and click on “I Want to Enter This Show.” Fill out the entry form in its entirety. The size of the images must be listed to the nearest inch.  Crop photos to exclude mat & frame. Be sure your images are rotated with the correct side up.

4.    Before uploading your images, make sure they are slightly smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi. Images must be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.***Please plan to prepare a 300 dpi jPeg at the same time to submit later when artwork is accepted.

EXHIBITION ENTRY FEES

¨      $35 up to two paintings for non-members

¨      $25 up to two paintings for RRWS members (need paid membership in advance to enter at member rate)*

¨      $10 each additional entry (4 entries maximum)

 

RRWS MEMBERSHIP (Optional)

¨        $25.00 - 2020 membership is based on the calendar year (January-December).

¨        * Artists wishing to enter the show at the member rate must join as a RRWS member prior to the time of their entry to the 27th Annual National Juried Watermedia Exhibition. You can do so by signing up for a RRWS membership on our website:  membership.  

¨        SIGNATURE STATUS, signified by the letters RRWS, is awarded for acceptance into a RRWS National Juried Watermedia Exhibition three times over a 10-year period.  Continuous paid membership is required (can be paid retroactively).

REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTED WORK:

 

Image Resolution:

  • Artist will provide a 300 ppi/dpi resolution image of accepted painting via email as directed in notification, for catalog and publicity print requirements.

 

Matting:

  • Mat is required.  Use only white mats. Colored liners are acceptable.  Floating and unhinged matting is not acceptable.  

  

    Framing:

Artist will frame their own painting following the RRWS requirements.

  1. Minimum IMAGE size excluding mat: 108 square inches (e.g., 9 x 12, 8 x 14, etc.) 

 

  1. Maximum FRAMED size: 60 inches in either direction.

 

  1. Simple, squared, flat, non-ornate one inch (1.5”) wide wood frame, or metal frame, is required. Curved frames are not acceptable.  Black, silver, gold or dark brown are acceptable frame colors.

 

  1. No glass is permitted. All work must be under plexiglass.

 

  1. Frame must be sturdy enough to support the artwork without buckling the plexiglass. 

 

  1. Frame must be wired for hanging. 
    1. All wooden frames must use "D" rings to attach the plastic covered wire on the back of the painting.  No sawtooth hangers.  

 

  1. Entries that do not comply with framing criteria will be returned at artist’s expense and disqualified from the exhibition.

 

 

Shipping:

  • Instructions for shipping will be sent via Artist Acceptance Letter.

 

Handling Fees:

  • $15/ hand-delivery, $30/ shipped paintings handling fee – fee payable by check, or money order, and it must be included with the shipped/delivered painting.  If any damage occurs in shipping, you will be contacted immediately.

 

Sales:

  • A 30% donation to RRWS is requested on sales.

 

Painting withdrawal/removal:

  • Accepted painting must not be changed from the submitted digital entry, nor may paintings be withdrawn once accepted, or the artist is banned from entering RRWS Exhibitions for two years.
  • Work may not be removed until the close of the exhibition.

Notifications are sent through ConstantContact  from Manager@OnlineJuriedShows.com. To ensure receipt of this notification, please add Manager@OnlineJuriedShows.com to your contact list, or safe senders’ list.

 

On the day of notification, you can do the following, but you will also receive an email notification, sent from ConstantContact, that will state the same. 1. Go to OnlineJuriedShows.com and log in using your email address and password. 2. Right above where you just logged in, click "Your Artist Profile." You are now in Your account! 3. Click the show name and you will see your first image. The jury results will be under the thumbnail view. 4. As you will see, it will say either "This Image has been Accepted or Declined in to the show." Under that sentence, you can click "Read Acceptance (or Declined) Letter." The letter will then be displayed below. 5. If you submitted more than one piece in the show, go to the next entered piece in the show by clicking the page number, displayed below the thumbnail image. 6. While you are in your account on OnlineJuriedShows.com, click "Personal Info" and make sure your name, address, phone number, and email address are up-to-date.

 

NOTE: Please be sure to read your letters in their entirety. Most acceptance letters will ask you to RSVP, or will have special instructions you must follow.
