Juror: Daniel Nevers

Daniel Nevers is executive director of the Berkeley Art Center. He has been involved in the Bay Area arts sector for 20 years as an administrator, artist and educator. His work has been shown locally at Headlands Center for the Arts, Root Division, the San Francisco Arts Commission and Southern Exposure, and he has taught studio art and professional practices for artists at the University of California, Berkeley, California College of the Arts and Mills College. Nevers has organized exhibitions and projects at Southern Exposure, Rhythmix Cultural Works and Mills College. He holds an MFA from Mills College and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin.

EXHIBIT TERMS AND INFORMATION

Scope:  

The 10th Annual “Fresh Works” Juried Exhibit is an exhibition opportunity for emerging and established artists who reside or work in the greater Bay Area.   

 

Eligibility:    

Open to all artists who are able to hand deliver their artwork at take-in, and pick them up at the end of the exhibit. All 2-D & 3-D media, no jewelry. Video Art contingent upon space; artist must provide equipment. 

 

Rules of Entry

  1. All work must be original, completed within the last year, not previously exhibited in Pleasanton, and available for sale. 
  2. All submissions and payments must be made through onlinejuriedshows.com 
  3. Each artist may submit up to 3 entries. Submission fee is $35 for up to 3 entries. Exhibit to be selected by juror.  Acceptance/Non-acceptance will be via email.

 

Note: The City of Pleasanton discourages artwork entries that include significant elements of sexually explicit,   overtly political or religious imagery and content, graphic depiction of violence, or profanity.

 

  4.  Size of finished work not to exceed 4 ft. any direction including frame, and maximum weight of 40 lbs.        

Work is to be installation ready; 2-D work must be framed or prepared and ready for hanging, FLAT D-RING HARDWARE with an opening 3/16” or larger, placed 2-4” from top, wire not visible.  NO saw-tooth hangers or protruding screw eyes will be accepted. Work must be clean, frames in good condition, Plexiglas preferred.  Unframed canvas must have gallery wrapped sides. No wet paintings. Photography must be matted and framed, no prints on canvas. Prints on metal allowed but must be wired as specified above. Artwork not adequately prepared or formatted according to instructions will not be included in exhibition. 

 5.   Artwork may not be removed by artist or buyer until August 9, between 2:00 – 6:00 pm. Please make arrangements to have someone pick up your art if you cannot come on that date, as late pick-up fees apply; see Payment and Fees section, #2.  

 

Digital Entries

Artwork will be juried using digital images (jpgs) through Online Juried Shows: www.onlinejuriedshows.com. An entry is one individual artwork. Each artist may submit up to 3 entries for $35

 

FORMAT FOR DIGITAL IMAGES (JPGS) AND HOW TO SEND THEM   

All entries must be submitted in a digital JPEG or JPG format, either cropped to remove background or on a black background without a mat.  Photos of the artwork should not be taken through glass or Plexiglas. Image quality is critical: Poor photography and presentation may affect acceptance by the juror. The digital image must represent the painting.

Payment and Fees

  1. Nonrefundable Entry fee of $35 covers up to 3 entries. Entries will be made online to Online Juried Shows:  www.onlinejuriedshows.com.   Payment is made through OnlineJuriedShows via credit card or Pay Pal.  Commission of 30% based on original price.  Fees are non-refundable. There is no guarantee of acceptance into the exhibit.
  2. Late Pick-up Fee: $5 per day per work will be charged if it is not picked up on August 9. Artists may designate someone to pick their work up for them with prior notification to gallery staff. Early delivery requests may be accommodated at staff discretion, but fees apply.

 

Sales/Insurance

  1. All work submitted must be for sale. The City of Pleasanton will handle artwork sales and tax and shall retain a 30% commission on all sales that occur during the exhibit or as a result of the exhibit. Artist will be notified of sale and a W-9 form will be provided which must be completed, signed, and returned in order to receive payment. Artist commission payments will be processed approximately 3 weeks after receiving the W-9 form. 
  2. Work will be insured for the sales price less 30% from the time of delivery, in duly noted condition, until the specified pick-up date.  In the case of an insurance claim, proof of prior sales/valuation of work would be required.  

 

Awards and Publicity 

  1. A $750 award will be presented at the reception for the Best of Show artwork.  Seven Merit prizes of $350 each and a number of Honorable Mention awards will also be presented.  
  2. The exhibit and awards will be selected by juror. Cash awards and honorable mentions will be presented at the reception.
  3. Exhibit will be announced via print and digital media. Postcards available to participants at day of artwork delivery.  The City of Pleasanton reserves the right to use submitted images for promotional purposes.
