ALERT 5/1/2020: The 2020 Adirondack Plein Air Festival is extending their deadline to June 1, and are changing the format of the event for the safety of our artists, and the people who live in the Adirondack Park. While our region has excellent health care facilities, there is not the capacity to handle very large numbers.
Anyone who wishes to withdraw their submissions and receive a refund they may do so. Please email onlinejuriedshows@gmail.com and let them know you do not wish to participate. However, our host organization, Saranac Lake ArtWorks, would very much appreciate your donations as we struggle to survive this pandemic. Please be sure to include in your email to onlinejuriedshows@gmail.com if you would like your entry fees refunded or donated to Saranac Lake ArtWorks.
Because our event has focused on painting the natural beauty of the Adirondack environment, accepted artists will be invited to come paint the Adirondacks, on their own, anytime between July 30 and August 19. Yes, this will favor artists who live in New York state, or areas within a few hours drive of the Park. Because of Covid-19, we do not want to encourage people to travel long distances to his part of the state, nor do we want to encourage any gatherings of people.
The Adirondack Park is 6 million acres. New York State has defined the boundary with a “blue line” on official maps. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Line_(New_York_State) We will provide accepted artists with a more detailed map.
We will not be providing any lodging - if artists want to stay overnight, as opposed to making a day trip, that will be their own decision.
The event will operate on the honor system. All paintings have to be done “plein air” during the dates specified. (Finishing touches in the studio are fine, within reason). Not work done at a previous event. Not done from photos. We promote the event as an opportunity to obtain original art, produced “on the spot”, and want to keep it that way.
We will accept 3 digital images of paintings, from each artist, due, via email, by midnight Aug 20. Our Juror of Awards will review them online and select prize winners (prize amounts and numbers to be determined).
We will host an online exhibit for a month, and offer a special preview to our past buyers/collectors, to give them the first chance to purchase. ArtWorks will advertise and promote the online exhibit as much as possible. We’ll work out all these details later, but artists will retain their paintings, include the cost of framing/shipping in the price, and if ArtWorks sells a piece online, the artists will be responsible for shipping to the buyer. ArtWorks will handle sales and keep a 30% commission.
So - if you’ve already entered and would like to participate by making a day trip or 2 to the Adirondacks, please hang in there. If you are from out of state and not nearby, please go ahead and request a refund from Online Juried Shows or let them know you’d like to donate your entry fees (via onlinejuriedshows@gmail.com). We hope you’ll apply again next year.
