PSSW 39th National Juried Exhibition



The Pastel Society of the Southwest’s 2020 National Juried Exhibition during the month of October will be the nonprofit organization’s 39th Juried Show of soft pastels. 

The exhibition will be held at the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau located in Grapevine, Texas. Historic downtown Grapevine has over 200 restaurants, 80 locally owned restaurants, numerous art galleries, fabulous shopping and winery tasting rooms. Events take place throughout the year. 

We invite you to participate in our juried exhibition and be a part of our quest for the highest artistic excellence in the soft pastel medium. We encourage you to join The Pastel Society of the Southwest. Our membership ranges from beginners to nationally recognized professionals, and we seek to increase our knowledge and enjoyment of the pastel medium. This year’s show will be juried and judged by nationally recognized artist Barbara Jaenicke, who will also conduct a 3-day pastel workshop in Grapevine October 5 - 7, 2020. 


Open to all artists working in the soft pastel medium with 80% of the artwork consisting of soft pastel. No oil pastels.

Entries must be original, unpublished and not copied from another artist’s work, photos or publications.

Artwork must have been completed within the last 3 years.

Student work produced under supervision is not eligible.

Entries must not have been exhibited previously in a PSSW juried exhibition.

Images should be no less than 800 pixels and no more than 1920 pixels on the longest dimension @72 dpi. The file format may be JPEG, TIFF, BMP or PNG, but JPEG is best.

Entries must be suitably framed under glass or Plexiglas.

Paintings must be framed and wired for hanging with D-ring hangers. No saw tooth hangers.

Framed work must not exceed 48 inches in height or width.

All accepted work must remain at the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau for the duration of the exhibition.

Failure to send your work after it has been accepted or taking artwork down during the exhibition may result in disqualification from future PSSW shows.

No Nudes. PSSW reserves the right to reject any work not meeting eligibility requirements or deemed inappropriate to the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau.

        Electronic applications will be accepted beginning March 2020 and ending Wednesday, August 5, 2020. 


Entry fee of $35 for PSSW members entering 1-3 images and $10 for each additional entry with a maximum of 5 entries. PSSW Membership fees are $35 and are due by August 31 of each year.

Entry fee of $45 for non-members entering 1-3 images and $10 for each additional entry, with a maximum of 5 entries.

A maximum of one (1) entry per applicant will be accepted into the show.

Sale prices marked on entries may not be changed.

Artwork marked "Not For Sale" will be accepted.

Best of Show will receive $1,000 cash award.

No refunds will be made on unaccepted entries.

Sales of exhibited artwork is subject to a 30% commission payable to the Grapevine Convention & Visitor’s Bureau.

No painting may be removed before the end of the exhibition.

Buyers must pick up the paintings at the end of the exhibition or arrange for shipping.

Hand delivered entries will be accepted Tuesday, September 29, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau. 

All artwork must be picked up Monday, November 2, 2020 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Shipped entries must be received by the shipping agent between September 17 and September 25, 2020. The fee is $55 for each painting. Shipped entries must be prepaid in reusable crates; include a prepaid return shipping label in the package. Shipped entries will be packaged and returned no later than November 30, 2020.


Artwork will be handled with all possible care; however, neither The Pastel Society of the Southwest, the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau, Navis Pack & Ship or any member of PSSW will be responsible for any loss or damage. PSSW suggests artists carry separate insurance. Glass is used at the artist's risk. Artists will be responsible for replacing broken glass prior to exhibiting in the gallery. By entering this exhibition, artists shall be deemed to agree with the conditions stated. Permission to reproduce artists’ work for publicity purposes is deemed given with acceptance.

November 30 Shipped entries will be returned by this date
