This campaign invites local Reno artists, as well as others from across the nation, to create a visual expression that demonstrates what innovation means to them. Contest judges include Burning Man artist Andrew Johnstone; Executive Director of Artech and Project Manager for Playa Art at Burning Man, Maria Partridge; and former Manager of Arts and Culture for the City of Reno, Christine Fey.

OVERVIEW

 

1. GENERAL INFORMATION


Background: INOVA luxury apartments at the Summit, the new apartment homes in South Reno geared toward creativity and a spirit of collaboration, launches a community campaign to celebrate local artists called The Art of Innovation. 


Presented by Bob Klein of Klein Financial Corporation, Chip Bowlby of Reno Land, and DivcoWest, the Joint Venture developers of INOVA, The Art of Innovation community campaign is an expression of their commitment to build upon Reno’s identity as a leader in art and innovation. 

 

The contest’s juried panel of art experts will include: Burning Man artist, Andrew Johnstone; Executive Director of Artech and Project Manager for Playa Art at Burning Man, Maria Partridge; and former Manager of Arts and Culture for the City of Reno, Christine Fey. 

 

2. ELIGIBILITY


Each entry must either be an existing work of art, created by the artist, or an original work of art yet to be produced by the artist. Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws. 

Entries must be suitable for display to the public and online (e.g. it may not be obscene or indecent, including but not limited to nudity or profanity); it must not contain obscene or pornographic material, it must not contain defamatory statements or messages (including but not limited to words, images, or symbols that are widely considered offensive to individuals of a certain race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic or other group), it must not include threats to any person, place, business, group or world peace, it must not invade privacy or other rights of any person, firm or entity, and it must not in any other way violate applicable laws and regulations.


3. CONTEST PERIOD


You may enter the Contest between 12:01 am Pacific Standard Time in the United States (PST) on July 23, 2020 and 11:59 pm PST on September 14 2020 (“Contest Period”).

All participants will be notified of results via email on or before September 28th 2020  

 

The fifty (50) art pieces with the highest scores will be exhibited in a long-term exhibition in the INOVA property and in an online gallery at www.liveatinova.com. These entries will also be included in a book, "The Art of Innovation" that will be shared to the public with the artists' information and the cost of each piece shown.


4. REGISTRATION AND SUBMISSION GUIDELINES


A non-refundable $10.00 entry fee is due at the time you complete the online submission process. The entry fee covers up to 3 submissions. You may enter additional entries for $5 per entry. www.OnlineJuriedShows.com(submission platform) collects all submission fees for the Contest. Applicable credit card fees will apply.


For best results, make sure your jpeg images are 1920 pixels @72 dpi on the longest side.  If accepted, you will be requested to provide jpeg images that are at least 2500 pixels on the longest side at 300 dpi.  If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please email onlinejuriedshows@gmail.com or call 949-409-4061.


All submissions must include your name and full description of artwork: title of artwork, medium on substrate, size, and description of work.


The original art remains property of the artist. Images submitted may be resized by content sponsor and reprinted in the coffee table book, put into an online gallery or to promote the campaign or event. Will not be used for commercial use unless permission is granted. The copyright for any Submission shall remain the property of the entrant.


Artwork can be landscape, portraits, still life, abstract, and is open to artwork of all non-video, 2-D media, 3-D MEDIA and dimensions such as photography, sculpture, paintings in oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic or digital, drawings, collage, etc.


Artwork must be a digital image of an existing or original piece, created solely by the participant. Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo or image (including a painting, graphic, or advertisement) that was created by someone other than the entrant is a violation of the contest rules and will not be accepted.


Artwork must be related to “The Art of Innovation” theme. Using a title or brief sentence, the artist must describe how the artwork represents the “The Art of Innovation theme.


With all media that is not photography, such as paintings, drawings, collage, etc., the jury will be judging the digital image of the artwork, not the actual artwork. 



5. JUDGING CRITERIA AND PROCESS, SELECTION OF WINNERS AND CONTEST EXHIBIT 


All eligible Submissions submitted during the Contest Period will be reviewed and evaluated based on its originality, design, and artistic expression of living life connected in Northern Nevada. 


Judging artwork is a subjective process, but all submissions will be judged on clarity of communicating the theme, artistic merit and creative expression. 


Jurying will take place online.


Jurors will judge artwork on a scale of 1 to 10 by previewing art pieces online. 


The 10 entries with the highest scores will receive a prize in the form of a check:

      •    3  First Place prize winners will receive $800 dollars in the form of check.

      •    3  Second Place prize winners will receive $600 dollars in the form of a check.

      •    3 Third Place prize winners will receive $300  dollars in the form of check. 

 

Best in show will be awarded $1500

 

Prizes will be administered via check by INOVA. Lost or stolen prizes will not be replaced. Prizes do not include any other item or expense not specifically described in the Official Rules and Regulations, and all additional expenses including, without limitation, travel expenses, if any, are the sole responsibility of winner. Prizes may not be transferred or assigned. Only listed prizes will be awarded and no substitutions, exchanges, or cash equivalents or redemption will be made, except that Sponsor reserves the right to award a prize of equal or greater financial value if any advertised prize (or any component thereof) becomes unavailable. Prize cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion or offer. Winner agrees to accept the prize “as is,” and hereby acknowledges that the Sponsor has neither made nor is in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation, or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to the prize, including express warranties (if any) provided exclusively by a prize supplier. 


Approximate Retail Value of each Prize: Any valuation of the prize(s) stated above is based on available information provided and the value of any prize awarded to a winner may be reported for tax purposes as required by law. Each winner is solely responsible for reporting and paying any and all applicable federal, state, and/or local taxes. Each winner must provide Sponsor with a valid taxpayer identification number or social security number before any prize will be awarded. A Form 1099 will be issued to the winner for value of prize $600 or more. Acceptance of prize constitutes permission for Sponsor to use winner's name, likeness, and entry for purposes of advertising and trade without further compensation, unless prohibited by law. Additional restrictions may apply.


The fifty (50) art pieces with the highest scores will be exhibited in a long-term exhibition at the INOVA property and in an online gallery at www.liveatinova.com The winning pieces will be reproduced, framed and displayed at the expense of the Sponsor. In some instances, resizing of the artwork may be required.

 

These entries will also be included in a book, "The Art of Innovation," that will be shared to the public with the artists' information and the cost of each piece shown. 


Entrants will grant the Sponsor permission and consent, without further compensation or attribution, to display the art in an exhibition at the INOVA property and on the INOVA website at www.liveatinovacom and for use in press releases and follow up materials relating to The Art of Life Connected contest and exhibit. Entrants may be contacted for additional permission to utilize submitted art for additional promotion. 


The copyright for any Submission shall remain the property of the entrant.



6.  TERMS & CONDITIONS AND DISCLAIMERS


a) Terms: The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest should (in its sole discretion) a virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention, fraud or other causes beyond its control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the Contest. In such case, the Sponsor may select the recipients from all eligible entries received prior to and/or after (if appropriate) the action taken by the Sponsor. The Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or website or violates these Terms & Conditions.


        i.   The Sponsor has the right, in its sole discretion, to maintain the integrity of the Contest, to void votes for any reason, including, but not limited to; multiple entries from the same user from different IP addresses; multiple entries from the same computer in excess of that allowed by Contest rules; or the use of bots, macros or scripts or other technical means for entering


       ii.  Any attempt by an entrant to deliberately damage any web site or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, the Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law.


b) Limitation of Liability: By entering you agree to release and hold harmless the Sponsor and its subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, partners, representatives, agents, successors, assigns, employees, officers and directors from any liability, illness, injury, death, loss, litigation, claim or damage that may occur, directly or indirectly, whether caused by negligence or not, from (i) such entrant's participation in the Contest and/or his/her acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of any prize or any portion thereof, (ii) technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to the malfunctioning of any computer, cable, network, hardware or software; (iii) the unavailability or inaccessibility of any transmissions or telephone or Internet service; (iv) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Promotion; (v) electronic or human error which may occur in the administration of the Promotion or the processing of entries.


c) Disputes: THIS CONTEST IS GOVERNED BY THE LAWS OF United States of America AND California WITHOUT RESPECT TO CONFLICT OF LAW DOCTRINES. As a condition of participating in this Contest, participant agrees that any and all disputes which cannot be resolved between the parties, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, exclusively before a court located in the state California having jurisdiction. Further, in any such dispute, under no circumstances will participant be permitted to obtain awards for, and hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental, or consequential damages, including reasonable attorneys' fees, other than participant's actual out-of-pocket expenses (i.e. costs associated with entering this Contest), and participant further waives all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.


d) Agreement to Rules: By participating, you agree to be fully unconditionally bound by these Rules, and you represent and warrant that you meet the eligibility requirements set forth herein. In addition, you agree to accept the decisions of the Sponsor, as final and binding as it relates to the content. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws.
