California Art League
Affordable Art: Holiday Gift Exhibit

California Art League

“Affordable Art”

CAL’s 2020 Holiday Gift Exhibit

THE “AFFORDABLE ART” HOLIDAY GIFT EXHIBIT

Just to mix things up a bit, and give our members an opportunity to make some lower cost holiday gift pieces, CAL is presenting its first Affordable Art exhibit, with no item for sale for over $300.  This an exhibit ONLY for CAL members with membership paid up thru December 31, 2020.

SHOW DATES

Tuesday, December 1, 2020 - Saturday December 31st 2020

JUROR – Ken Ronney

Ken is past President of CAL and currently CAL’s Exhibit Chair.  He is also the Vice President of the San Fernando Valley Arts and Cultural Center which was, for the last 6 years, CAL’s indoor exhibit venue.

Ken took an early retirement from an engineering career and soon thereafter got involved in sculpting.  His first few pieces were common static works, but then he found his calling, re-purposing his engineering training and skills in making motorized kinetic sculptures.  These are designed to have absolutely no functional purpose other to amuse and entertain the viewer….in stark contrast to the engineering projects that ALWAYS were burdened with specifications, budgets, schedules, management, etc.  Ken found it an absolute revelation to be free of all that and be able to work on a piece till he was satisfied with it in every detail….without the inevitable compromises that working in a commercial environment included.

ELIGIBILITY

The California Art League exhibit, “Affordable Art” is open to all CAL members who wish to share their affordable work.  CAL members’ dues must be current for 2020;

ARTWORK SUBMISSION CRITERIA AND CONTENT

CAL is dedicated to exhibiting excellent works of fine art which promote the artist’s artistic ability, vision and creativity.  In this respect all artwork should be original and created from conception to completion by the artist within the last three years and not previously shown in any CAL Show.  Artists are permitted to use their own photos as reference materials in the creation of their artwork, but not photos from other sources. No artwork copied from other artists work, copyrighted work, published or internet photos, or created under the direct guidance of an instructor are eligible, with the exception of items used in collage works.

In general, works may be entered without frames or hanging hardware.  Artwork on paper may or may not be mounted, matted, framed and behind glass or Plexiglas, but this should be stated in the description.  Then, the artist and buyer can work out details of presentation and mounting.  If the artist feels that a special presentation requires framing, etc., they should state it in the title (Framed).

ARTWORK MEDIUM AND ENTRIES

Artwork submissions can be in any of the following media:  drawing, painting, photographs and digital art, mixed media, collage and sculpture

Entries will be made online to Online Juried Showshttp://www.onlinejuriedshows.com.  Artwork submissions are limited to eight (8) original artworks per artist in the following media:   drawing, painting, photographs and digital art, mixed media, collage and sculpture.

ENTRY FEES

Up to 8 entries: $25.00 for CAL members.  Payment is made through Online Juried Shows via credit card or Pay Pal.  Fees are non-refundable. There is no guarantee of acceptance into the show.

FORMAT FOR DIGITAL IMAGES (JPGS) AND HOW TO SEND THEM

All entries must be submitted in a digital JPEG format.  Take photo or art with a digital camera and crop out background, or if that is not possible, use a black background without a mat and not through glass. Image quality is critical!  Poor photography and presentation will affect acceptance by the juror. The digital image must represent the artwork.  Directions for submitting work to Juried Online Shows is clearly described on the website in several topics listed on the sidebar of the main page:   http://www.onlinejuriedshows.com/HowToEnter.aspx

If your 2-D work has special feature(s) that cannot be properly represented in a single image, enter it as a 3-D entry and include 1 or 2 supplemental images that emphasize that property (texture, brush work, special reflections, etc.)

If all else fails, email or call Ken for questions, Kronney@aol.com or 818 996-1630.  Please leave a message which includes your phone number, who you are and why you are calling and I will return your call.
