Art Preservation Institute
2021 Curator's Juried Art Competition

Presenting the 2021 API Curator’s Juried Competition and Online Exhibit

Overall Summary

Our goal is to select up to 50 artworks for inclusion in our online exhibit hosted by OnlineGalleryShows.com. From that group of 50, we will select up to 15 Award Winners (see below) for inclusion in our Curator’s Collection of fine art. Artwork in our Curator’s Collection is made available to our collectors, sponsors and corporate donor groups, many of whom utilize artwork in their advertising and promotional campaigns. Our secondary goal is to provide funding for our Artist Grant Program, dedicated to helping full-time studio artists in need of financial help.

Our mission is to provide artists, galleries and museums with meaningful financial and promotional support in under-served art communities. You can learn more about us and our mission here

The artworks selected will be exhibited and offered for sale by OnlineGalleryShows.com through March 31, 2021. Any artworks sold are subject to a commission of 15% of the sales price, plus a handling fee of $7. Artwork is offered for sale unframed, shipping included. All costs of shipping and handling the artwork is borne by the Artist.

Artists establish the selling price of their artwork during the application process. Shipping and handling costs are borne solely by the Artist. Artwork will be sold unframed. Artists should consider these factors in their pricing structure. OnlineGalleryShows requires an electronically signed contract (furnished via DocuSign) from each Artist prior to their participation in the online exhibit.

Entry fees are $55 for the first image, $65 for two images and $75 for three images. The entry fee includes a complementary membership in the Art Preservation Institute as an Artist Associate Member. Winning artists are automatically upgraded to Juried Artist Member status.

Minimum awards have been established as follows:

First place (one awarded) $300
Second place (one awarded) $200
Third place (one awarded) $100
Honorable mention (up to 12 awarded) $ 50

Minimum awards may be increased based upon the number of entries received. The more entries, the bigger the awards. In addition, the top three award winners will receive a free full-page ad in our online magazine beginning with our 2021 Spring Edition and quarterly thereafter through December 31, 2021.

In consideration of the cash awards, winning artists grant to API the right to make and sell prints of their winning artwork to collectors, sponsors, patrons and corporate members. Artists will receive a 75% commission on all prints sold. API will provide shipping for any prints that it sells.

The total minimum awards will consist of cash and free advertising in our newsletters, calendars and other publications. Cash awards are paid in exchange for a license for our use of your accepted images.

The jury pool will be comprised of API staff. The jurors will first select the pool of participants in the online exhibit and then select the Award Winners from that pool. Artists will be notified by email, on or before February 15, 2021, whether their artwork was accepted or declined for the online exhibit. Award winners will be announced by separate email on or before February 20, 2021.
