6th Annual “Little Gems” Juried Art Show

Please read thoroughly, as the prospectus has changed since last year. This is a juried art show, featuring Juror of Awards, Kathleen Dunphy, who will be on location at the Scott Milo Gallery on August 6. It is with great pleasure that we offer this highly-acclaimed annual exhibit of the finest small works from Plein Air Washington Artists! 

Covid restrictions- Since the timing of this prospectus coming out in May and the opening in August, we will announce whether or not an awards ceremony for artists will be allowed on opening day, and if so, in what capacity. We will conduct a live Zoom video of awards for those not in attendance. An announcement will be made prior, in the PAWA July newsletter.

Saturday, August 28 - Closing. People’s Choice announcement - 4:30pm.
Saturday, August 28 - Unsold art may be picked up between 4:30 - 5pm
Tuesday, August 31 - Final date for unsold art to be picked up, between 11am-2pm. 


JUDGE Kathleen Dunphy
Masterfully capturing the intrinsic beauty of nature, nationally acclaimed artist Kathleen Dunphy paints with a characteristic passion that soulfully radiates true-to-life light and color.
Kathleen's broad subjects range from landscapes and seascapes to wildlife and still life art. Her large-scale and smaller paintings are available online and at galleries in Wyoming, South Carolina, Maine, and Virginia. Her works are enjoyed by collectors around the globe. 

Included among her many awards: an American Impressionist Society Best Of Show and Oil Painters of America Award of Excellence; accolades at the Federal Duck Stamp Competition, Birds in Art; Arts for the Parks; a Grand Prize at the Acadia Invitational Exhibition in Bar Harbor, Maine; and honorary participation in multiple juried shows such as the California Art Club Gold Medal Exhibitions. 

Kathleen has earned signature status with the Society of Animal Artists, the California Art Club, Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society, Laguna Plein Air Painters, the American Society of Marine Artists, and Artists for Conservation. In 2012, she was honored with being asked to join the 35 members of the prestigious Plein Air Painters of America, where she served as vice president in 2016-2017. Kathleen resides in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Northern California with her husband and many animals on their farm. 

After the Little Gems show opens, Kathleen will be conducting a plein air workshop in the area. 


You may enter up to six pieces of art, but only up to three (3) will be accepted into the show, in total. $35 for the first three entries, $8 for each entry after, up to six (6) total entries. Entries will only be accepted through The non-refundable fees will be charged when entering your art. 


To be eligible to participate in the show, you must be a member of Plein Air Washington Artists. If you are not currently a member, please go to to sign up. Basic annual membership is $30, advertising members are $60.


This is a small works show. Art must be 11x14 (or a total of 154 square inches) or smaller. This does not include frame size.

Entry is open to traditional two-dimensional paintings of all genres, plein air or studio. Please, no digital art or photography.


There is no timeline on when the art was created.


It CANNOT be art that has been accepted and hung into the Little Gems show or in the Scott Milo Gallery in the past.


All art must be available for sale. There will be a 50% commission to the gallery on items sold. 

For best results, make sure your image is 1920 pixels @72 dpi on the longest side. Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space. Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at: If you need help entering your images, please email or call 949-409-4061.


Must be received at Scott Milo Gallery, Tuesday, August 3, 2021 between 11am-2pm. If you would like to drop off art to Karen Bakke (show chair, 360-421-3178) anytime prior, please make arrangements with her as soon as convenient to do so. If you need to ship art, send to: Karen Bakke, 8106 Garden of Eden Road, Sedro Woolley, WA 98284. NO art is to be shipped directly to the gallery.

Must be suitably framed or gallery-wrapped and ready to hang with wire to gallery quality standards. If you’d like to have your work framed at the Scott Milo Gallery, you may do so under your own arrangements. PAWA and Scott Milo Gallery reserve the right not to hang accepted art if it does not meet standard gallery-quality standards.

Will be published in the “Published Shows” section of and will also be shown on the PAWA and the Scott Milo websites. Selected art will also be used for advertising the show.

Artists will be responsible for retrieving, or making arrangements for retrieval of their art, at the end of the show. Art may be picked up at 4:30pm the day of the closing or the following Tuesday between 11am and 2pm.

All reasonable care will be taken with paintings and submissions. PAWA, its officers, volunteers and the Scott Milo Gallery shall not be held responsible for the loss and damage to paintings, frames or digital entries. By entering the show, you agree that you have read and will abide by all rules outlined in this prospectus; you understand and agree with this statement. Insurance for any loss or damage to artwork is the sole responsibility of the participating artist. The artist grants permission to reproduce work for publicity purposes, both in print and digital galleries. This permission includes use of images and supporting information in our blog, on our website or other means of promotion. Copyright will be attributed to the artist. Entry into this exhibition constitutes agreement with all conditions set forth in this prospectus and is your commitment to participate.
