SUBJECT MATTER

This exhibition will commemorate the two-year anniversary of Covid-19 shutdowns initiated globally in March 2020.

The California Art Club encourages artists to reflect upon the challenges faced in 2020 and showcase the unexpected lessons we learned from our collective experience. We ask that the artists illustrate their personal silver linings that resulted from the stay-at-home orders and represent how they adapted to the abrupt change.

We want the exhibition to feature a diverse selection of imagery – from waiting in lines for testing, vaccinations, and food to finding creative ways to celebrate life’s milestones and advocate for crucial issues in our communities.

The intention of this exhibition is to spotlight the deeply personal changes we all went through because of the pandemic. Please consider using the following questions as prompts for your work:

  • How did quality time with loved ones evolve?
  • What hobbies did you take up, or revisit?
  • What emotions sat with you the longest, and why?
  • How did you adapt to the sudden changes in your day-to-day life?
  • How did you get involved in your community?
  • What aspects of life in 2020 do you hope will continue in our post-pandemic world?

Please note that we will only accept very few portraits featuring masks.
