EXHBITION DETAIL

American Women Artists is pleased to announce its seventh museum exhibition as part of the 25 in 25 campaign, an initiative to have 25 museum shows for its members over 25 years. Brookgreen Gardens is a beautiful venue in Murrells Inlet, SC and one of a few select places in the United States to have earned accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums as well as being designated a National Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This exhibition will be installed within the Rosen Galleries in the Hoy and Mizen Galleries with up to 100 total 2-D and 3-D works in the style and theme of the artist’s choosing.

 

There Will Be A $10,000 Grand Prize Cash Award. In addition to approximately $30,000 in cash and merchandise awards, final works selected will appear on AWA’s website gallery, be featured our monthly e-newsletters, and promoted through AWA’s advertising and social media channels.

 

ELIGIBILITY

Open to women at least 18 years of age, who are working in the fine arts and living in the United States or Canada. To submit works, applicants MUST BE A 2023 MEMBER of American Women Artists. If you would like to join as a new member or renew your membership, please email membership@americanwomenartists.org . If you do not pay for your 2023 membership by the submission deadline your entry will be disqualified.

 

American Women Artists seeks to select an exhibition of fine art demonstrating excellence in terms of composition, technique, mastery of medium and quality of design. The final selection will be an exemplary showcase of a diverse group of representational and abstract artworks by artists who draw, paint, and sculpt.

 

ENTRY GUIDELINES

1.           The Juried Museum Exhibition is open to all 2023 AWA Members in good standing.

2.           Applications may be submitted from November 1 – December 15, 2022, 5 pm CST.

3.           Finalists will be announced no later than January 13, 2023.

4.           Only online entries will be accepted for this show. NO MAILED SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED. Please submit all entries through www.onlinejuriedshows.com .

5.           Entries must be of original concept and design.

6.           Acceptable mediums for painting: oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, egg tempera, pastel, color ink, and encaustic.

7.           2D Works must have been completed in the past 2 years and have not been shown in a prior AWA show.

8.           3D Works must have been completed in the last 5 years and have not been shown in a prior AWA show.

9.           Acceptable mediums for drawing:  conte crayon, colored pencil, graphite, charcoal, pen & ink, scratchboard, and original hand-pulled prints. Works must have been completed in the past 2 years and have not been shown in a prior AWA show.

10.        Acceptable mediums for sculpture:  cast metal, fabricated metal, stone, glass, wood, and any fired permanent medium such as terra cotta, stoneware, porcelain, earthenware. Works must not have been shown in a prior AWA show.

11.        Mixed medium works using the above-listed materials as well as textiles or fabric art as components are acceptable.

12.        Not acceptable mediums include craft, jewelry, photography, digital prints, textiles, fiber art, and any work containing computer generated elements of any kind.

13.        Maximum entries: six (6)

14.        Maximum of one (1) entry per accepted artist will be juried into the exhibition.

15.        Maximum size for paintings and drawings: Up to 40” on the longest side unframed.

16.        Maximum size for sculpture: Height 8 ft including base or pedestal. Weight 200 lbs.

17.        All works entered must be for sale and available to sell after acceptance into the show.

18.        By submitting images to this juried opportunity, you understand and agree that accepted images will be displayed on AWA’s website, social, and/or print media. Images become part of AWA’s archives and may be used for this and future AWA promotions. Artists retain copyright to their image(s).

19.        By entering this exhibition, you agree that you have read and will abide by all rules outlined in this prospectus

20.        All membership and jury fees are non-refundable; overpayment of any fee will be considered a donation and will not be refunded

21.        All Artists accepted into the exhibition will be expected to contribute $100 towards production of the show catalog.

22.        AWA and the Museum reserve the right to refuse any work(s).

 

APPLICATION

The National Juried Exhibition application process runs November 1 – December 15, 2022, at 5 pm CST via www.onlinejuriedshows only. Finalists will be announced by January 13, 2023, on AWA’s website. The entry form must be filled out in its entirety. List sizes up to the nearest inch (high x wide). Submitted images must not include matting or frame. Crop the photos to include only the artwork. Be sure your images are right-side-up.

 

Before uploading your images, make sure they are 72 dpi and 1920 pixels on the longest side, and no smaller than 800 pixels on the longest side. Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space, and less than 4 mb.

ENTRY FEES

All AWA Member Levels: $60.00 for up to TWO (2) ENTRIES. Each additional entry $10.00 up to maximum of six (6) entries. Payment for jury fees should be made through www.onlinejuriedshows.com  via credit card at time of application. Entry fees are non-refundable.

 

You must be a 2023 Member of AWA to enter the Juried Exhibition. 2023 Dues must be paid by December 15, 2022, or submission is disqualified.

AWARDS

There will be cash and merchandise awards. Award packages are designed to support, encourage, and inspire women in the visual fine arts.

 

JURORS

Selection and Awards jurors for AWA’s National Juried Competition work independently to assess the entries. Jurors will be announced in AWA’s monthly e-newsletter and on AWA’s website.

 

JURYING NOTIFICATION

All jury status notifications will be posted on www.onlinejuriedshows.com  and a list of accepted artists and their works will be posted at www.americanwomenartists.org  no later than January 13, 2023. This will be a highly selective show. One piece per finalist will be selected to exhibit at Brookgreen Gardens.

 

ACCEPTED WORKS

The decision of the Selection Jurors is final with the AWA and the Museum reserving the right to final acceptance for exhibition. All accepted artists will be provided with a consignment form to be completed, signed, and returned to AWA by January 27, 2023. Once accepted, works may be pre-sold but must be exhibited for the duration of show and proceeds must be shared with Brookgreen Gardens and AWA, under Commission terms outlined below.

 

All accepted Paintings & Drawings must be framed or gallery-wrapped (gallery wrapped must be finished, painted around edge, no tape), and wired for hanging. Accepted Sculpture must be ready to place with any stands and title plates securely fastened. Stone sculpture may be shipped without a base attached only if clear, simple, well-labeled assembly instructions are included and any required installation materials are included with the sculpture. Accepted artists will be offered Advertising Opportunities at AWA negotiated rates in two to three different national publications.

 

SALES COMMISSION

Sales will be processed by Brookgreen Gardens. If a sale occurs, the artist will receive 65% of the price. A 35% commission will be split 25% to Brookgreen Gardens and 10% to AWA.

Artwork must be priced in accordance with artist’s current pricing structure. Pricing will be available in the exhibition and will appear on the AWA website.

 

SHIPPING

Shipping Instructions will be supplied by AWA to all finalists. Each accepted Artist is responsible for the delivery of their shipped or hand delivered work between May 1 – May 5, 2023.

 

LIABILITIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, SALES

By entering this exhibition, the artist agrees that they have read and will abide by all rules outlined in this prospectus. All membership and jury fees are non-refundable. Overpayment of any fee will be considered a donation and will not be refunded. Submission of work for this exhibit will be construed as acceptance of all conditions set forth in prospectus. AWA and Brookgreen Gardens reserve the right to return work that does not meet exhibition standards. Every reasonable care will be taken with original artwork. Brookgreen Gardens will be responsible for insurance of artwork while on exhibit for the amount specified on Record of Consignment. The Artist is responsible for insurance of artwork to cover the full value of the artwork while in transit.
