SUBJECT

In 2014, the San Gabriel Mountains were designated as a National Monument by President Obama, in order to protect the 350,000-acres that create a natural boundary between Los Angeles and the Mojave Desert.

The San Gabriel mountains are home to species like the California condor, mountain yellow-legged frog and Nelson’s bighorn sheep. 300 California endemic plant species are native exclusively in the San Gabriel Mountain Range. It also hosts 600 archeological sites, as well as Mount Wilson Observatory.

With this rich history and plentiful scenic views, we invite you to submit paintings featuring the majestic beauty of the San Gabriel Mountains that grace Southern California.

Paintings could feature the scenic rugged peaks, like Mount Baldy, or Strawberry Peak. Other works could explore the popular hiking trails, fishing in reservoirs and streams, camping, or other popular recreational activities. Since San Gabriel Mountains is home to endangered wildlife, we also encourage paintings featuring these species!

Note:Works created during the October 5, 2022 Mount Wilson Observatory Paint-out by qualifying artists can be submitted!
