JUROR - BEVERLY LAZOR

Beverly Lazor lives in Southern California. At a very early age she was exposed to the landscape with regular Sunday family drives up and down the beautiful California coast. This influenced her love for our wonderful diverse countryside there is nothing like experiencing the lighting atmosphere and mood of an environment and then trying to capture it on a canvas. Beverly has always been inspired by the impressionist painters and their wonderful use of color texture and brush strokes. Plein air painting has become a passion.  It’s hard to capture the same excitement and experience in the studio as being there with nature. The use of shadows and color play an important part in inspiring her compositions. She favors a looser painterly approach to her work enjoying the more subtle nuances that brush strokes can achieve in a painting. After graduating with distinction from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena she worked as a freelance illustrator /product designer for over 40 years working in the entertainment industry illustrating children's books, puzzles, clothing, jewelry, and toys working with clients like Disney, Amblin, MCA, Bradford Exchange and The Getty Museum. She has been an instructor and written classes for the Academy of Art University in SF for over 15 years.  She also instructs private plein air classes locally.  Beverly's vineyard and landscape paintings are displayed in Jessup Cellars Gallery in Yountville.  She recently joined the Edward Montgomery Fine Art Gallery in Carmel CA, and the Waterhouse Gallery in Santa Barbara.  Beverly is an Artist Member and the Malibu / Ventura County Chapter Chair of the California Art Club and exhibits in numerous shows.

ELIGIBILITY

The California Art League exhibit is open to all CAL and non-CAL entrants who wish to share their best work. CAL members’ dues must be current for 2023. New members join CAL as part of the entry process. The reduced membership rate for new members is exclusively for artists who have never been a member of CAL.

ARTWORK SUBMISSION CRITERIA AND CONTENT

CAL is dedicated to exhibiting excellent works of fine art which promote the artist’s artistic ability, vision, and creativity. In this respect, all artwork should be original and created from conception to completion by the artist within the last three years, and not previously shown in any CAL show. Artists are permitted to use their own photos as reference materials in the creation of their artwork, but not photos from other sources. No artwork copied from other artists work, copyrighted work, published photos, the Internet, or created under the direct guidance of an instructor are eligible.  The only exception is collage work which may include small portions of other artist’s work.  All images may also be reviewed by the gallery staff for appropriateness.

ARTWORK MEDIA, ENTRIES and FEES

Artwork submissions can be in any of the following media: drawing, painting, photographs, digital art, mixed media, collage, and sculpture.  Hanging artwork (paintings, photos, etc.) shall not be more than 24” wide, including the frame. Weight of any hanging piece may not exceed 30 pounds. Installations with a footprint of not over 4 ft. x 4 ft. and 8 ft. high are accepted.  No performance art is accepted.

Entries will be made via jpeg images online to OJS. Artwork submissions are limited to five original artworks per artist. Entries may be made in more than one medium

Fees are:  One or two entries: $35.00 for CAL members with 2022 or 2023 (depending on submit date) dues fully paid, and $55.00 for non-CAL members. The $20.00 surcharge for non-members is a one-time offer that gives the new artist membership into CAL at a discount, which is good for the rest of the year. All entrants may enter additional artwork for $5.00 per piece fee up to a total of 5 entries. Payment is made through OJS via credit card or PayPal. Fees are non-refundable. There is no guarantee of acceptance into the show. New members whose work is juried into this show will be considered “exhibiting members” and will be eligible to submit work as an exhibiting member for acceptance in all future CAL shows.

FORMAT FOR DIGITAL IMAGES (jpegs) AND HOW TO SEND THEM

All entries must be submitted in digital JPEG format and under 4 mb. Photograph your art with a digital camera on a black background, (if cropping is not possible), without a mat or frame, and not through glass. Image quality is critical! Poor photography and presentation will affect acceptance by the juror. The digital image must represent the painting. Directions for submitting work to OJS is clearly described on the website in several topics listed on the sidebar of the main page: https://www.onlinejuriedshows.com/Help.aspx. For help with your entries, email onlinejuriedshows@gmail.com or call 888-666-1351.
