Eligibility: The following rules apply for all works entered.
ORIGINAL ARTWORK ONLY. Open to all Maryland Pastel Society members in good standing (2023 membership is up to date). All paintings must be the artist’s own original work and at least 80% soft pastels (no oil pastels). All accepted work must have been completed within the last two years and may not have been shown in previous Maryland Pastel Society exhibitions. Work is ineligible if it was: 1) produced whole or in part in an instructor-led class or workshop; or 2) copied substantially from the work of other artists, from published materials, or from photo reference material belonging to others. Framed size of artwork should not exceed 36" in width or height. All manner of subject and style are eligible. Paintings delivered to the exhibit must be identical to the accepted digital image.
If your work is accepted into this show, you will be required to agree to the terms of the show agreement below.
Procedure for Entry
Enter your images online at www.OnlineJuriedShows.com. Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at: http://www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx.
For best results, make sure your image is 1920 pixels @72 dpi on the longest side. Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space. If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please contact onlinejuriedshows@gmail.com or call 949-287-8645.
Entry Fees
• US $20 for 1 image, $25 for two images, $30 for three images.
Entry fees are nonrefundable and must be in US dollars.
Judge of Selections and Awards
Palden Hamilton
Born and raised in Maryland, Palden Hamilton attended the Gilman School, where he studied under Betsey Heuisler. After receiving his B.F.A. from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2002, he continued his education at the Art Students League of New York, where he studied under Ron Sherr, Harvey Dinnerstein, and Mary Beth Mckenzie. There he was awarded a Merit Award in Realism and the Phylis T. Mason Grant.
Hamilton has done a range of commissioned portrait work since returning to his hometown of Baltimore. He was notably commissioned to paint Maestro Yuri Temirkanov, the musical director of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra in Russia. In 2008, 2017, and 2018, he was awarded Certificates of Excellence from the Portrait Society of America.
Hamilton has painted landscape extensively on location in his native Maryland, and on travels to his mother's homeland, the Himalayan kingdom of Sikkim. As a landscape artist, he has participated in and received honors from Easton, Wayne, Solomons, and Cape Ann plein air events.
Hamilton has been a passionate art instructor for over ten years, teaching at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), the Zoll Studio School of Fine Art, and at the Yellow Barn in Washington D.C.

Framing and Presentation
All works must be appropriately framed under glass or Plexiglas and ready to hang. For larger pieces, please consider using Plexiglas to minimize weight. Matting (neutral) and frames should be simple. Framing must be to gallery quality standards, i.e., frames must be suitable to the work, undamaged, reinforced, and wired to hang (no saw tooth hangers). Paintings delivered damaged, with dirty matting, with broken/inadequate hanging wire or hardware, or an unprofessional presentation will not be hung and will be returned at the artist’s expense.
- Entries not meeting the show conditions will not be accepted.
- MPS retains the right to determine suitability of work for entry in this show.
- All work must remain on exhibit until the end of the show.
- Sales: If any work sells while on display at Glenview, the artist agrees to donate 20% of the sales price, as commission, to the City of Rockville.
- The Show Agreement: artists showing work at Glenview must agree to the following:
“I agree to the rules of the show as presented in the show call and the schedule below, that my entries are my original works and have not been accepted into a previous Maryland Pastel Society Juried Members’ Show, and I will not hold the Maryland Pastel Society, Glenview Mansion, or the City of Rockville responsible for any possible loss or damage to my entries. As with any show, I understand that all reasonable care will be taken in the handling of my artwork. I give MPS, Glenview Mansion, and the City of Rockville permission to use images of my artwork and publish them as appropriate. I acknowledge a commitment to donate 20% of the sale price of my work, if sold during this show at Glenview to the City of Rockville.”
By entering this show you agree to the terms of this prospectus.
Delivery of Accepted Work
Accepted artwork must be hand-delivered to Glenview Mansion Art Gallery on March 27, 2023, between the hours of 10am-1pm.
Exhibition Details
The exhibition will be at the Glenview Mansion Art Gallery, 603 Edmonston Drive, Rockville, Maryland 20851from April 3-May 12. The “Meet the Artists” will be April 30 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm.
Sales
The City of Rockville receives 20% commission on the sales of artwork on display at the Glenview Mansion Art Gallery. Work may be listed as NFS. Price on Request (POR) is not allowed. All work displayed must remain for the duration of the exhibition. No work will be released before the close of the exhibition.
Liability
The utmost care will be taken in the handling of digital images and paintings. Insurance for all artwork, in situ and in transit, is the responsibility of the participating artist. Neither the Glenview Mansion Art Gallery nor the Maryland Pastel Society may be held liable for loss or damage of artwork. Maryland Pastel Society and Glenview Mansion Art Gallery reserve the right to reproduce accepted entries for publicity. Copyright will be attributed to the artist. Submission of entry via OnlineJuriedShows.com and corresponding fee shall constitute agreement with ALL conditions set forth in this prospectus.
