PENINSULA ART LEAGUE announces its 21st Annual Open Juried Show and Artist Workshop

 

The Open Juried Show is a juried art competition for Photo/Digital, Two-Dimensional and Three-Dimensional art. Local, national, and international artists over the age of 18 are invited to submit their work. Prizes and gift certificates totaling more than $6,000 will be awarded.

 

The Open Juried Show will be held October 6, 2023–December 1st, 2023 at the Gig Harbor History Museum, 4121 Harborview Dr., Gig Harbor, Washington 98332. This beautiful state-of-the-art waterfront facility provides ample space in its dedicated art gallery to showcase your masterpieces. The museum is a popular attraction in Gig Harbor and brings in many new art lovers to enjoy and purchase your art. The museum is open to all at no charge, Wednesday - Saturday, 11 AM to 4 PM. HOW TO ENTER THE SHOW:

 •           Submit all entries by July 31, 2023. Click Enter This Show at the top of the page.

 •           Juror to select artwork from online submissions August 1-15, 2023.

 •           Entrants will be notified by August 17, 2023. You may also see your results on https://www.onlinejuriedshows.com  by logging into your account there.

 •          Please note: The 2023 Open Juried Show catalog is generated directly from the information submitted in your online entry, so accuracy is the artist’s responsibility.

ENTRY FEE:

PAL members $60.00 for 1 to 3 pieces

Non-members $70.00 for 1 to 3 pieces

 

SHIPPING/HAND-DELIVERY DEADLINES AND FEES:

 •                Shipped artwork must arrive at the museum by September 28, 2023. Hand-delivered artwork must arrive at the museum by September 29, 2023. Shipped and hand delivered artwork must arrive at the museum between the hours of 11 AM — 2 PM.

 •                Additional shipping fee of $40.00 per piece for handling shipped works. All shipped works must include a pre-paid shipping label for return shipment. Shipped art will be returned within two weeks of December 2nd, 2023.

 •                $50.00 storage/handling charge for all work not picked up on December 2nd, 2023, except work scheduled to be shipped back to the artist. If art is not picked up by the artist (or alternate arrangements for pick-up or shipping are not made) by December 30, 2023, the museum will dispose of the art.

 •                The Harbor History Museum charges a 30% commission for all sales.

PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD ANNOUNCED

 

ELIGIBILITY:

 •          Artists must be 18 years or over.

 •          All entries must be original works of art, entirely the work of the entrant, and executed within the last two years.

 •          All entries must be for sale.

 •          Entries must not be prints or copies in part or whole of paintings or photography other artists.

 •          Hand-pulled prints from intaglio, woodblock or serigraph are acceptable.

 •          Works produced in workshops or under supervision are not eligible.

TERMS & CONDITIONS:

•          Entries include 2-D, 3-D (including handmade jewelry), and photography.

•          Entry fees are NOT refundable.

•          Maximum of three entries per artist.

           Entries will be selected from digital images only.

•          Awards will be judged from the original art.

 •          Including the frame, artwork must be a minimum of 12” on one side, height or width. Including the frame, artwork should not exceed 2,200 total square inches in size.

•          For photography only, size must not exceed 24” x 24

•          Art must be sturdily framed and ready to hang including wire. Art may be gallery wrapped with properly finished sides and wired to hang. Gallery wrapped canvas does not require framing but must be wired to hang. Wire must be moderately taut and properly attached about 1/3 from the top or higher. Larger and heavier pieces of art should use appropriately sized “D” rings with sturdy wire. No sawtooth hangers. No wire should extend above the top of the piece.

•          Artists may not substitute another work for an accepted work, nor withdraw any accepted work until the end of the show.

•          PAL reserves the right to refuse, on arrival, any artwork that does not meet the eligibility and conditions, does not match the submitted image, or is of unacceptable quality not discernible in the digital entry.

•               Insurance of the art is entirely the artist’s responsibility.

•                PAL reserves the right to reproduce accepted artwork for purposes of publicity, documentation, education, and promotion of the show.

 

NEITHER PAL AND ITS REPRESENTATIVES NOR THE HARBOR HISTORY MUSEUM CAN BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE OR LOSS OF THESE ART WORKS FROM ANY CAUSE. UTMOST CARE WILL BE TAKEN WHEN HANDLING ALL ART.

Juror Catherine Gill lives her life as an artist in a way that is exciting, challenging, sometimes balanced, and always fun. Catherine has lived in the Paci?c Northwest for over 30 years, painting and teaching on location in mixed media, watercolor, oil, pastel, and printmaking. Her classrooms include homeless shelters, museums, art centers, studios, beaches, parking lots, boats, kayaks and forests, and Zoom rooms in her Magnuson Park studio in Seattle WA.

Catherine teaches painting and printmaking locally, throughout the United States, and worldwide. Her artwork and current list of workshops and videos can be viewed at www.catherinegill.com. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally and throughout the world. Catherine is co-founder of Art Partners International, dedicated to bringing together artists and art of different cultures. She is a member of Northwest Watercolor Society, Women Painters of Washington, Plein Aire Painters of Washington, Seattle CoArts, Seattle Print Arts and Print Arts NW.

Catherine’s book on landscape painting, Powerful Watercolor Landscapes, with writer Beth Means, was released by Northlight/F&W Publications January 2011. Penguin Random House now carries the EBook version of Powerful Watercolor Landscapes. . Printed books are currently out of stock. Her work can also be found in Art Journey America: Landscapes (F&W) Kipp , December 2011; and recently a 9 page article on plein aire painting in Watercolor Artist Magazine, June 2018.
