Juror: Ashley L. Voss

Ashley L. Voss is the Owner/Director of Voss Gallery, an art gallery dedicated to showcasing New Contemporary work by emerging and mid-career artists in solo and thematically organized group shows in San Francisco, CA. She has guest curated/juried group exhibitions for the San Francisco Women Artists Gallery, CA; ArtSpan in San Francisco, CA; Visionary Projects in NY, New York; and Antenna Gallery in New Orleans, LA. Her writing has been published in Pelican Bomb and Art Practical. Ashley regularly participates as a gallerist reviewer for the San Francisco Artist Network portfolio review program.

 

Previously, Ashley worked as the Gallery Director for Art Attack SF and Curatorial & Communications Manager for PARSE NOLA. She has held additional positions at a number of arts organizations, including Q Artists Cooperative and The Riverfront Arts Center in Stevens Point, WI; and Anton Haardt Gallery, The Front, and the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans, LA. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Arts Management degree with an emphasis in Art History from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.

 

EXHIBITION TERMS AND INFORMATION

Prospectus

The 11th annual “Fresh Works” juried exhibition is an open call to emerging and established artists who reside or work in the greater Bay Area. The group exhibition will be held at the Firehouse Arts Center’s Harrington Gallery which is located at 4444 Railroad Avenue, Pleasanton, California, 94566

 

Eligibility   

·      Artwork must be hand-delivered to the Harrington Gallery to be included. 

·      No shipping will be offered, and artists must be willing to cover shipping costs for non-local buyers.

·      All 2-D & 3-D media accepted (no jewelry).

·      Freestanding three-dimensional work must be appropriate size for display on 15” x 15” x 40” pedestal. 

·      Video art contingent upon space; artist must provide equipment. Video files must be emailed to onlinejuriedshows@gmail.com.

 

Rules of Entry

  • All work must be original, completed within the last year, not previously exhibited in Pleasanton, and available for sale. 
  • All submissions and payments must be made through onlinejuriedshows.com  
  • Each artist may submit up to 3 entries. Submission fee is $35 for up to 3 entries. 
  • Exhibited works to be selected by juror with acceptances/non-acceptances available in artist's OnlineJuriedShows.com artist profile Friday, March 3, 2023.

 

Note: The City of Pleasanton discourages artwork entries that include significant elements of sexually explicit, overtly political or religious imagery and content, graphic depiction of violence, or profanity.

 

  • Size of finished work not to exceed 4 feet in any direction including frame.
  • Maximum weight of work up to 40 pounds.        

·      Work is to be installation ready; 2-D work must be framed or prepared and ready for hanging according to the following requirements: 

o   FLAT D-RING HARDWARE with an opening 3/16” or larger, placed 2-4” from top.

o   WIRE NOT VISIBLE.

o   NO saw-tooth hangers or protruding screw eyes will be accepted. 

·      Work must be clean, frames in good condition, Plexiglas preferred.  

·      Unframed canvas must have gallery wrapped sides. 

·      No wet paintings. 

·      Photography must be matted and framed, no prints on canvas. 

·      Prints on metal allowed but must be wired as specified above. 

·      Artwork not adequately prepared or formatted according to instructions will not be included in exhibition. 

·      Artwork may not be removed by artist or buyer until Monday, June 12th 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

·      Please make arrangements to have someone pick up your artwork if you cannot come on that date, late pick-up fees apply (See Payment and Fees section).

 

Digital Entries

Artwork will be juried using digital images (jpgs) through Online Juried Shows: www.onlinejuriedshows.com. An entry is one individual artwork. Each artist may submit up to 3 entries for $35.

 

FORMAT FOR DIGITAL IMAGES (JPGS) AND HOW TO SEND THEM   

 

·      All entries must be submitted in a digital JPEG or JPG format, either cropped to remove background or on a black background without a mat.  

 

·      Photos of the artwork should not be taken through glass or Plexiglas. 

 

·      Image quality is critical; poor photography and presentation may affect acceptance by the juror. 

 

·       The digital image must accurately represent the painting.

 

·      Submitted images must not include matting or framing.

 

·      Crop the photos to include only the artwork and be sure your images are right-side-up. 

·      Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi

Payment and Fees

  • Entry fee of $35 covers up to 3 entries (fees are non-refundable).
  • There is no guarantee of acceptance into the exhibition.
  • Entries will be made online to Online Juried Shows:  www.onlinejuriedshows.com
  • Commission of 30% based on original price to the City of Pleasanton. 
  • Late Pick-up Fee: $5 per day per work will be charged if it is not picked up on Monday, June 12, 2023.
  • Artists may designate someone to pick their work up for them with prior notification to gallery staff.
  • Early delivery requests may be accommodated at staff discretion, fees may apply.

 

Sales/Insurance

  • All work submitted must be for sale. The City of Pleasanton will handle artwork sales and tax and shall retain a 30% commission on all sales that occur during the exhibition or as a result of the exhibition.
  • Artist will be notified of sale and a W-9 form will be provided which must be completed, signed, and returned in order to receive payment. Artist commission payments will be processed approximately 3 weeks after receiving the W-9 form. 
  • Work will be insured for the sales price less 30% from the time of delivery, in duly noted condition, until the specified pick-up date. In the case of an insurance claim, proof of prior sales/valuation of work would be required. 

 

Awards and Publicity 

·      A $750 Gary and Nancy Harrington Award will be presented at the exhibition reception.  

·      Seven Merit Awards of $350 each and a number of Honorable Mention Awards will also be presented. 

·      Acceptances and awards will be selected by the juror. Cash awards and honorable mentions will be presented at the reception.

·      Exhibition will be promoted via print and digital media. 

·      Postcards available to participants at day of artwork delivery.

·      The City of Pleasanton reserves the right to use submitted images for promotional purposes.
