PROSPECTUS: SOCALPAPA BACK BAY SHOW 2024 – Juried Show

Eligibility: You must be a 2024 SOCALPAPA Member; you must be one of the artists accepted in the two-day Weekend Display Show & Sale to enter the on-line Juried Show.
THE WEEKEND DISPLAY SHOW & SALE: Saturday & Sunday, July 20 & 21, 2024
Benefits: Sell your art! 65% to artist; 35% to NBC; NBC handles sales, sales tax and payment to artists. Assistance for grid set-up. Chairs, shade canopies, and lunch are provided.
How to Enter: First, sign up for the Weekend Display Show. Sign-up on SOCALPAPA website (https://www.socalpapa.com) starting April 1st. Go to the “Events” tab on the home page, register and pay $50 by secure credit card payment or mail check to SOCALPAPA, 4790 Irvine Blvd., Irvine, CA 92620. (Payment non-refundable; no exceptions.) Enter required information and answer questions. Although not guaranteed, every effort will be made to accommodate your preferences. First come; first serve. Space is limited. Don’t delay sign-up. Deadline to enter: May 31st.
Requirements: You must be personally present on both days. Plein air and studio work acceptable. However, no nudes, no abstract art, no portraiture, no figurative work (figure in landscape okay); no reproductions or prints. Minimum pricing $250. All art must be appropriately framed. No gallery wrap. (See separate rules document on website.) You will be asked to remove art not in compliance.
THE JURIED SHOW: July 13 - 19, 2024
How to Enter: After acceptance to the Weekend Show & Sale, you may enter the juried show here (log in and click Enter This Show to begin your submissions). You may enter up to 2 images with no additional entry fee required. You may enter three additional images for $15.00 each. All entry fees are non-refundable.
Requirements: Original plein air paintings only. Original means your own concept, design and execution, not done in a workshop or under the direction of supervision of another. Plein air means completed 80-100% at the outdoor subject matter’s location. (20 percent studio touch-up is allowed.) Paintings may be any medium, ie oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel. No prints or giclees. Canvas or panel size: 6x12 to 16x20 or square inch equivalent. All paintings juried into the show must be framed, backed with a black or brown dust cover, and ready to hang with D-rings and wire.
The Subject matter must be Newport Back Bay or one of the Parks & Wilderness areas managed by OC Parks. No exceptions. Do not confuse OC Parks with state or local parks. If unsure, go to the OC Parks website for a list of all OC Parks.
Entering Your Images: Entry form must be filled out in its entirety. List sizes up to the nearest inch. Submitted images must not include matting or frame. Crop the photo to include only the artwork itself. Be sure your images are right-side up. Before uploading your images, make sure they are less than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi. Images should be in JPEG format. The Show: Up to Sixty (60) paintings will be juried into the show. Juror: Geoff Allen. Accepted paintings must be delivered on Friday, July 12th, 2024, to the Muth Interpretive Center Conference Room between 10am – 4pm. The paintings will be on display and for sale in the Muth Center Theatre from July 13 -19. The artists’ reception and award presentation is Friday evening, July 19th, from 6pm to 8:30pm, at the Muth.
Awards: First Place: $1000; 2nd Place $750; 3rd Place $525; Best in Show $500 plus 5 Category Awards $100 presented by our distinguished juror, TBD, plus (3 ) - $100 merchandise awards by Randy Higbee; an NBC Robinson Award, and an OC Parks award.

June 9: Acceptances/Declines go out to artists for Juried Show (mid-end June last year)
July 1: Zoom meeting at the Back Bay for all artists who didn’t come to the June 6 meeting, 7-8pm.
Friday July 12: Artists deliver accepted paintings for Juried Show – to the Muth Center Conference Room, between 10am -1pm
July 13-19: Juried Show goes on exhibit in the Muth Interpretive Center Theatre Room
July 19: Artists’ Reception Juried Show, 6-8:30 pm
