Valona Plein Air Paint Out
PROSPECTUS
The Epperson Gallery was established in 1996. This will be our 12th paint out. The event is open to any artist who paints using the plein air technique, in all fine art painting mediums. The juror this year will be Gerald Epperson, a dedicated advocate for plein air painting. Over the past three decades, he has displayed plein air art in his gallery, curated a personal collection, and hosted the exciting Valona Paint Out, all aimed at promoting and preserving this art form.

ELIGIBILITY:
* Open to any artist using oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, or gouache.
* Participating artists must paint from life and on location. Studio work is not allowed.
* Work submitted for review should reflect the best quality of your plein air painting.
* If the quality of art created by accepted artists is not of the same quality as the images submitted, it may be excluded from the gallery show.
FEES:
To be considered for this event, artists must submit three images (REQUIRED) representing their best plein air work and pay a non-refundable $50 jury fee by the entry deadline. ENTERING YOUR IMAGES:
• Entry form must be filled out in its entirety. List sizes up to the nearest inch. Submitted images must not include matting or frame. Crop the photos to include only the artwork. Be sure your images are right-side-up.
• Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi. Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space. • Please add Services@OnlineJuriedShows.com and Manager@OnlineJuriedShows.com to your safe senders list to ensure notifications are received. The Juror, Gerald Epperson, will make the final decision on participating artists. Notification of artist acceptance or rejection will be communicated on June 6th, 2025. Results will be available in your artist profile. Contract, rules and regulations will be given to those accepted.
* Incomplete applications will not be accepted
* Selected digital images by accepted artists may be used for publicity.
PARTICIPATION RULES:
1. There will be no exceptions to deadlines, specifications or rules. Entry dates are Thursday April 24th to Friday June 3rd, 2025, 11:59 p.m. PST through OnlineJuriedShows.
2. Participants must abide by the rules of the event as outlined in the prospectus.
3. Accepted artists may submit up to three (3) plein air paintings (with event stamp) for the show. Paintings may not exceed 18” x 24” before framing.
4. Paintings must have event stamp and be created during the official painting period to be eligible for awards. Subject can be anywhere in the bay area.
5. All artwork must be for sale. Sales split: 50% to Epperson Gallery and 50% to the artist.
6. All work must be in gallery quality frames, “wired” (no saw-tooth hangers), and ready for hanging. No exceptions.
RESPONSIBILITIES/LIABILITIES OF THE ARTIST:
By entering the event, you agree that you have read and will abide by all rules outlined in this prospectus. The Epperson Gallery assumes no responsibility for the loss or damage of any artwork, for any reason, no matter what the cause. By submitting artwork to this event, you understand and agree with this statement. Insurance for any loss or damage to artwork is the sole responsibility of the participating artist. The artist also agrees to pick up unsold work as set forth in the prospectus.
AWARDS: $1,500 first place, $750 second place, $325 third place.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
June 3 – Last day to enter via OnlineJuriedShows
June 6 – Notification for acceptance to Valona Plein Air Paint Out
June 13, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM - Start of Paint Out, artists can check in at Epperson Gallery and get their supports stamped
June 18 – June 20, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM - All artwork completed for the show must be hand-delivered to the Epperson Gallery
June 20, 5:00 PM - Last day and time to turn artwork in
June 21 - Reception and awards 4-6 pm
July 20 - Last day of show
July 25 – July 27, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM - Artists pick up their unsold artwork. If you cannot pick up your work during this time frame, please make arrangements for someone else to do this for you and leave a signed letter of permission with the gallery.

NOTE: Please be sure to read your letters in their entirety. Most acceptance letters will ask you to RSVP or will have special instructions you must follow.
