American Tonalism at Ballard’s Fine Art 

The American Tonalist Society is hosting an online juried submission process for additional artists in its 3rd Biennial Exhibition in September at Ballard’s Fine Art Gallery in Sheridan, Wyoming. There will be only three artists that will be chosen to join the invited 2025 Signature Artists.  We are working towards over $5,000 in sponsorship and award money.  

About Contemporary American Tonalism:  

In response to the popularity of colorful plein air painting on the American scene, today’s American Tonalists instead celebrate paintings that portray atmospheric and luminous effects that evoke emotion. The paintings represent a quiet, contemplative experience that embody spirituality and simplicity.  

The mission of the ATS is to recognize, promote and showcase the current tonalist movement, and to continue the tradition of the American Tonalists of the 1800s through workshops, exhibitions and catalogues.  

Please submit images of works you want included in the show. All works will be considered based on curatorial review. Work will be accepted by digital submissions.  

• Please submit your images of unframed paintings in oil, acrylic, pastel, or watercolor. (no photography or prints allowed). Work must be in the genre of tonalism. Up to two paintings per artist will be accepted into the show.  

• Images must be jpg and under 4 mb. For best results, images should be at least 1920 pixels on the longest side @ 72 dpi. For help with your submissions, contact onlinejuriedshows@gmail.com or 888-666-1351.

• Largest horizontal size is 40.”  

• If accepted, paintings must be framed and for sale at the show. When sold, 60% of sale price goes to artist. 

• Entry Fee is $45 for one entry, $15 for each additional  

• Entry deadline: August 1, 2025

Benefits of Exhibiting: 

• Participants in the show will be given Signature Artist status to the American Tonalist Society for two years. 

• No annual membership fee.

Costs: 

• A fee of $165 will be due upon acceptance to ATS for promotional, catalog and administrative costs. This cost is not part of the submission online juried show fee. 

• Artist pays for shipping to and from show 

Please attend the Opening reception and weeklong activities starting September 5, 2025 at Ballards Fine Art in Sheridan Wyoming. Show runs through October 12, 2025.
